Getting a Resmed S9 Elite on insurance

Post by indyredsfan » Fri Jul 22, 2011 10:29 am

I have been newly diagnosed with sleep apnea. I've researched CPAP's, and I want to get a Resmed S9 Elite with Climateline tubing. I have Anthem insurance, and they should pay 100% for my machine. Anyone had success getting this under their insurance, particularly in the Indianapolis area?

I was able to get Lincare to give me an S9 Autoset, H5i humidifier and Climateline hose by having my physician write all three items on the prescription. They tried to give me an S8 but I pointed out that the prescription specified exactly what I needed. Took another week or two but they finally got it approved by their management.

Yes the best way is to get a prescription with that machine specifically listed. Or talk to your DME and let them that is the only machine you want, if they don't want to give it to you tell them you will just go somewhere else. I bet they will quickly change their mind seeing that they will still make money no matter which machine it is.

If you need help with your machine here is a link to our instructional videos.

I have Anthem Blue Cross as my Medicare-Advantage plan. They have a number of plans and you did not say which one you had as they each differ as to co-pay and so forth. My wife has one of their plans through her employer and it is different than mine. They did pay for most of my cpap although I did have to pay for the setup fees and something else which came to $88.00 and some change. That included the S9 Elite, humidifier, mask, hose and a neat carrying bag. Under Medicare guidelines, the supplier (Apria) will bill them monthly for a year and I will pay a co-pay of $3.85 a month and after a year it is my machine then. I am in the Denver area of Colorado.

Hope that helps further your quest for information but the best way to find out is to call Anthems customer service number on your membership card and ask them. They are usually very helpful in getting you the information you need.
