Morning Sleepiness

Post by sleepyprm » Sun Jul 10, 2011 7:28 pm

Recently I have found myself getting really sleepy around 10:00am at the office. Seriously considered having another sleep study done, and I actually made an appointment with a new sleep doc to talk about it. My numbers are extremely good, but I know that I need to pay attention to how I feel, too. Then I read (maybe in this forum) that oatmeal is one of the foods that can make you the sleepiest, mostly because of the shot of carbs. I have been eating oatmeal every day for breakfast since I had some GI problems a couple of months ago! For the last three mornings I have been eating yogurt and fruit or a poached egg and fruit instead, and, YIPPEE - guess what? NO SLEEPINESS! This was a complete surprise to me, as I was thinking that eating oatmeal every day was so good for me!

I will continue to keep the protein and fruit in the morning, and reserve the oatmeal for those days when I know I can doze off! Has anyone else had this happen? I can't even explain what a relief this was to me!!!

Why don't you tell it to the authors of this report? They might invite to lecture on it in Grenoble, France.

I have noticed (even pre-xpap) that if I eat oatmeal at night I sleep a lot better. I think it's due to complex carbs breaking down more slowly over time so you do not get a sudden drop in blood sugar, which can wake you up. It sounds like your new breakfast is a better fit for you!

You have to watch what kind of oatmeal. I got to liking the flavored sachets of instant oatmeal, then found out that they have a lot of simple sugars in them , which kind of defeats the goodness of eating oats in my mind.

Additional Comments: Pressure is 11-14. Old CPAP was a Resmed S6 Lightweight. Also have Profile lite mask. ResScan is actually version 3.14. Now I use Sleepyhead.
