Quattro FX Questions

Post by lee_leses » Thu Jul 07, 2011 4:46 pm

So I just got a new Quattro FX from the local DME today, and I have a few questions.

First, let me say this mask seems lightyears better than what they had five years ago when I started with the CPAP!

I'm trying to replace the Breeze headgear I've been using with this mask.

I think all this time, most of the air has been blowing up my nose and right back out my mouth!

How does anyone get effective therapy with a nasal only interface? Maybe some people natually keep their mouth closed when they sleep?

I've had drool on the pillow and dry throat and mouth, which is what is making me think this has been a big part of my problem all along with why the CPAP is not working for me.

So questions:

What is this orange piece, it says it's a "spring frame support" in the instructions, and it seems to indicate you remove it before using the mask. I assume it goes on there somehow for storage or something?

Does anyone have problems with getting sweaty where the plastic is sealing at your face? It was hot in the house when I was test fitting the mask, so maybe this will not be as bad when the bedroom is cool.

The orange piece is to keep it from crushing it during shipment. Use it always when traveling.

Thank you!

Call me a dumb dumb, but so far I can't figure out how the orange piece would be installed on the mask for travelling...

You slip them in where the headgear attaches to the mask. There are two sizes on the orange support. Squeeze them to fit in the slots.

I've gotten a little sweaty with it, but that has only been on hot nights and it hasn't been a problem. I like the mask, it seals well and I rarely have leaks with it. If you don't clean the whole mask everyday, at least make sure you wipe off the part that contacts with your face so it is free from sweat and oil. Otherwise it's a great mask.
Thinking of quitting CPAP?

No problem, here's the first thing to do when you quit:

Advanced funeral planning. When you give up CPAP, you'll probably need it.

Looks like the "orange piece" question has been answered. I was dumbfounded at first also, so don't feel bad!
First of all, I REALLY love this mask!!!
I've used it for almost two weeks now, and I am feeling better than ever. MY AHI last night was 0.08
I have never had an AHI that low. No more leaks! No more soreness on the bridge of my nose!
I've even been able to get by with less humidification. Honestly, I have zero complaints. I was thrilled that it also came with 3 additional mask cushions, as per insurance allowance of one per month. For me, it is without doubt the best mask yet.

Sometimes it gets a bit sweaty between my face and the interface, so I ordered the pad-a-cheek cloth piece that goes in between my face and my mask (can't remember what it is called). I'll try it tonight for the first time! Hope it reduces the dampness.

I too just "graduated" to this mask from Swift FX for Her. First night OK; 2nd night a bust with lots of leaks, so after 3 hours of non-sleep I went back to pillows. Tonight is 3rd night.... yes I'm awake and up. Immediately had a good seal and have had all night. I've slept from 10-2:30, with REM sleep, but with lots of little wakeups. I think the night before maybe the seal was off track causing so many leaks. I cut a liner from flannel material that worked tonight and maybe helped the leak problem. Ordered PadaCheek today. (Wasn't she a smart business lady!) NOW, the reason I couldn't get back to sleep was that I felt I didn't have enough air. I just posted about perhaps needing more air with FFM than with pillows. I like the Quattro since it doesn't have the forehead piece and the back strap doesn't go across the spine at the neck.
Avatar is one of 200+ elephants in a collection started when I was in kindergarden. Thought it was appropriate.

Many of us use tape to keep our mouth shut. I have to use tape and a chin strap. You do what you got to do.

I hope your new mask works out for ya.
