I went in for my sleep study last Friday. Was interesting to see the monitor. The bed, however, was hard and so was the pillow (Japanese style). I won't get the results for another week. I felt like I slept 'well'. I'm wondering if people with sleep apnea have it ALL the time or if it can be there one night and not the next?
Also, today as I was napping I noticed that I would stop breathing not because of obstruction but just STOP breathing. I had positioned myself in a way that my tongue and all those lovely bits wouldn't block the airway but as I went into a semi-dream state I would get a headache and wake up and my body would go from not moving to slowly moving. Is this sounding more and more like central nervous sleep apnea (I think that's the name?)? I do snore according to my wife. I take sleep medicine (Zopiclone) and anxiety meds (Xanax) that I'm trying to get off of. I've been on them for years. My doctor laughed at the idea that the meds would worsen sleep apnea (The mental health doctor that prescribes the meds, not the sleep specialist). I'll get more conclusive data in the next week and hopefully on a CPAP next week.

Re: two types of sleep apnea??
I've got CSA as well as OSA. I also stop breathing, not because of obstruction but just because. I take methoadone for back pani (scoliosis) and the sleep doc also thinks meds could be the cause of CSA, or that it could make the CSA worse.
Thinking of quitting CPAP?
No problem, here's the first thing to do when you quit:
Advanced funeral planning. When you give up CPAP, you'll probably need it.
