Well, I spent my third night on the APAP and so far I don't have any complaints. This forum has already been quite helpful in that it has allowed me to turn on features on the ResMed S9 Autoset with humidifier that the DME didn't.
My sleep study said that I had an AHI of 67 without cpap and 1.7 with using a Cpap. My original perscription said that a setting of 15 was optimal for me and a CPAP was prescribed. But after a little reading, I decided that I wanted an APAP so I called my doctor and asked if he would change the Rx and he agreed. The settings are for a range of 5 - 20, which seems a little wide from some of my reading, but my AHI was 2.7 for 8.4 hours of sleep last night. So, it must be working.
I'm using a Swift fx mask and the nasal pillows are pretty comfortable but it has made my nose a little sore. The weirdest things that I smell something like baby powder and vanilla for the first few breaths.
Thanks for your help and info on this site. I look forward to learning a lot more.

From another noob, welcome.
Sounds like you're way ahead of the game. The question is: how are you feeling?
I'm sure you'll hear from more folks. Good luck!

Thinking of quitting CPAP?
No problem, here's the first thing to do when you quit:
Advanced funeral planning. When you give up CPAP, you'll probably need it.

Glad you are doing so well. I think smelling something like baby powder and vanilla is just a freebie!

Re: I think that I am newbie sucess
Welcome and I'm glad you're having such good success!
I'm having good success myself after I found the right mask. I've made some tweaks on my machine the last few nights and I've lowered my AHI down to around 2. I noticed the difference this morning after I woke up. I'm noticing that my BP has been slowly going down too. Maybe after awhile, I can get off the meds. I give credit to this forum to help me make the tweaks.

Welcome to the forum, mep. You did your research well, and you have an excellent machine.
You might want to try a range of 8 - 20 for your next nights. (I'd use 10 - 20 if it were me and I'd been prescribe a pressure of 15 from a sleep study.)
I think if you'll move your minimum pressure setting up several more cms than the "5" you current have set it at, you'll see an even lower AHI, if that matters to you. You're being very sensible about "AHI" since you're satisfied (and well you should be! ) with your current settings giving you a treated AHI of 2.7. That's well under "AHI 5.0", so it's very nice and low already.
The minimum pressure is the one that really matters. The max can be left up at 20 if you don't have leak problems that could drive the pressure upward unnecessarily. The minimum pressure setting is the one that does the most to try to prevent apneas:

If the nasal soreness continues or is more than a slight tenderness consider loosening top strap one notch and/or adding just a bit of Lansinoh ointment to your nostrils. Used by breast feeding moms to help with nipple soreness.
