OT: Losing a pet

Post by newhosehead » Sat Jun 04, 2011 9:06 pm

I lost a dear friend today. The beautiful Golden Retriever that is in my avatar pic died at 14 + years of age. Those of you who have been through it know how I feel this night and how I will feel for some time to come.
This is a tribute to my dear girl, who loved unconditionally and was always there for me. To know the love of an animal is a gift. I will not forget you, sweet girl, and you were a gift in my life.

Yes, Jeanette, they are a gift to our lives. I've admired your avatar of her - such a beautiful dog. So sorry to hear of your loss.

I am so sorry Jeannette.
I do know your pain. I have accumulated more little boxes of ashes than I want to count.
Perhaps she is now playing with my little & big friends I have lost over the years. I like to think so anyway.

It hurts and it sucks. I will shed a few tears with you tonight, for all our lost friends.

Thank you, Kathy. I have always noticed your mention of the joy you get from your pet and it always made me smile. Our girl had a wonderful life. No leashes, no fences, just friends (canine and human! and a lake for swimming in her own backyard. She was lucky. So were we.

I'm so sorry to hear that you've lost your dear friend, Jeannette. No matter how short or long a time that we share their lives, it's always too short, and it hurts so much to say goodbye. I'm sure that you will meet her again one day at Rainbow Bridge, just as I hope that I will meet my friends, too.

I'm sorry about your dog. Our family had a golden retriever and she had the sweetest nature.

Oh, Jeanette, I'm so sorry.

Like many here, I know where you are emotionally right now (I'm wiping tears, feeling your pain and reliving my own losses). We never have enough time with them, but they sure do enrich our lives. But whatever amount of time we do have, with all the love and laughter they bring us, the pain of their loss (and there's plenty of it) is worthwhile, in time.

I'll be thinking of you and yours. ((hugs))

So very sorry for your loss and hoping that our words here can be of some comfort.

Each dog I've lost is a loss of a family member, and yes, time has always eventually helped turn sadness into happy memories.

Kind wishes.

Sorry to hear that. You'll have a hole in your soul for the next few months at least. Whenever you do something, you'll look around and feel that void in the room where your dog should be.

Concentrate on the positive. Feel the void in there and think about the joy you had with her. If she was in pain at the end, count your blessings that she's not hurting any more.

What was her name?

I am so very sorry for your loss. Pets are such an important part of our families, and their passing leaves us with a grief many cannot understand unless they've experienced the unconditional love pets give to their humans. It will take time for the hurt and emptiness to subside. Know that you provided a loving and safe forever home to her for over 14 years, and in return, you got the loyalty and love of a wonderful friend. My thoughts are with you and your family.....
Yes, that blue eyed beauty is my cat! He is a seal point, bi-color Ragdoll. I adopted him in '08 from folks who could no longer care for him. He is a joy and makes me smile each and every day.

Im so terribly sorry for your loss, I hope the tears rolling down your cheeks will turn into
vibrant memories of your loving member of the family. I do know how you feel, and it is such
a painful time..

I believe that your pups spirit is still with you.. so reach down and be sure to pet your beloved friend..

Maybe leave the water bowl out, the collar and leash hanging.. and when you want to call your pups spirit,
just jingle the collar...

My husband and actually saw the neighbors dog sleeping in front of their garage one day, as it always has done,
its favorite place for a sunbath, I mentioned to my neighbor, and she was in shock..
as she said the dog had passed away two weeks ago and had been cremated, with his ashes on the mantle.

It was a very rod serling / matrix moment... and from then on, I KNEW that dogs do have spirits which live on..
and sometimes may not know they have gone.. so keep talking to them if you can..

I don't know you on here, but as a pet guardian...... I am so sorry for your loss. I have three dogs, varying ages. I know when each passes it will be hard. But I also know that I will honor their life by bringing another pup soul into my home.

Good luck and hugs!
