Checking data too often?
Checking data too often?
How often should I be checking my data? I am becoming to think I am placing too much importance on the data.
Since beginning CPAP in early 2010 I have checked the data every day but then I stress that I will have a "bad" day if the data is up slightly.
I have decided to only check once a week and get on with using the equipment and not making it such a focus in my life.
My AHI rarely goes above 1.0 and the pressure averages at about 16-17.
Grateful for any opinions.

As long as I feel good and the machine is doing what it is supposed to do I just look at avg ahi on the machine which is usually 2.5 or less. I will run a report every so often.

If you stress that you will have a bad day when your numbers are up, don't check it in the morning. Given your numbers, once a week is plenty, I would think, unless you have reason to suspect there's a problem.

Re: Checking data too often?
The machine I use on a regular basis does not give me data. I do, however, have an S8 Auto that I use periodically to check how I am doing. I check every 2 months for 3-4 days at a time and find that there is no signifigent difference in my data. I don't see any reason to spend time monitoring daily data or running reports. As long as I see my AHI averaging <5 when I check I'm satisfied.

Re: Checking data too often?
Stress is counter-productive to your goal. Once a week is PLENTY as long as you have numbers that good. Many patients would trade their first-born for an AHI under 1.0.

I am still in the tweaking mode, and my AHI is not that low, so I check my data everyday. If I were at 1.0 for a year and a half, I'd probably load my data every few weeks as long as I still felt good.
I caught myself once where I woke up feeling great until I looked at my numbers. From that time on I decided that I wouldn't let the numbers dictate how good or bad my day was going to be.

How do you check your own data?....

Re: Checking data too often?
It CAN become something of an obsession, can't it? I try to download my data once/week just to keep a consistent trail of data going, however I don't really see the need. I know what sort of variation to expect from day to day, so unless I'm having a problem or anticipating a sleep doctor visit, I don't really see the need.
However, when it comes time for a checkup, I'll make sure and have a couple of weeks' worth of reports to show the sleep doc, along with oximetry data to back up the effectiveness of what the machine is doing. Beyond that, I don't know that it's the best use of my time.

Re: Checking data too often?
I log my data every day after I assess how I feel! I load my data every 3-4 days, then view the detailed graphs and log my median pressure and leak to check trends. It's nice to know when I wake up feeling lousy that I just had a bad night of sleep, that something else isn't occurring 'cause my rational little mind will find some cause for that lousy feeling however bizarre the cause it comes up with...gotta love its creativity
