getting 420E - dilema with CPAP

Post by jcarn » Wed Jan 04, 2006 6:37 pm

Hi all,

My DME is bringing me a 420E this Friday .. I originally was given the HC234 but wanted to upgrade to APAP.
Anyway, my HC234 is out of the rental phase and I am getting billed for it. Tufts pays for 80%, so it's not a wallet killer, but due to my overindulgence this holiday season, I'd really like to save a little money. I want to apply my HC234 payments toward the 420E but not sure if this is possible. Sure, everythings possible I know, but what's a good strategy when calling the billing dept on this.
or should I sell the CPAP machine used or just keep it around as a spare?

Anyone ever go through this?

Thanks .. jcarn

jcarn, congrats on your choice of the 420E! I'm sure others have better ideas about the DME deal, but personally, here's what I'd do, or did, rather, in the same situation. The best way to save money is to get the 420E online. If the 234 is paid for already, likely your insurance won't help you out with another machine. So you'll be stuck with full price. The DME price will be a killer. You can save a bunch by purchasing at cpap.com. Just keep the 234 as a spare. I think it's a good idea to have a backup.

The only other consideration would be whether they would take the 234 as a trade, in which case that would shave some $ off the PB 420 cost. But still, from a DME you're likely to get soaked. Just my .02 (hey, if you get a lot of two cents worth from folks, to buy the 420 E you'll only need..... oh,never mind.
