Issues with Swift FX For Her

Post by Sireneh » Tue May 10, 2011 10:18 am

This wee mask is having some trouble staying on my face. The back strap slides up. I have read about some people using velcro to stick to their hair and I may try that. At other times I wake up to the mask just kind of sitting near my nose, blowing noisily away. I feel when I wake up to the sound that I've been hearing it for a little while and then finally awoke realizing what it was. Although perception during sleep is not all that; maybe I wake up immediately.

The small size of the mask is its best and worst feature. Maybe I need to tighten the straps?

I keep vacillating between keeping this one and working to improve the way it's functioning, or just switching to the LT. Any suggestions as to other things I may try to make it stay put?

Don't tighten the straps--that will only hurt your nose.

TRY the velcro! Ufo13's suggestion was to staple the velcro in--I don't think that's a great idea because the staples are going to tear up your pillow cases, but to try it on a temporary basis if you're not into sewing it would work and be a quick fix. Don't try sticky back stuff--it won't stay stuck AND it's very hard to sew or staple through!

The other thing is to hang your hose if at all possible. That way, the weight of the hose will not be constantly pulling the pillows away from your nose. Whatever hanging system you use should allow you to move side to side without a drag on the hose.

On the other hand, the Swift LT is MUCH more stable. But if you can get the FX stabilized with the above tweaks, it is worth the effort.

Thank you. I was wondering about hanging it. I'll see if I can convince my hubby to jerry-rig something for me. Tonight. And I do have some super-strong fabric glue that could hold the velcro to the strap. The thing about this mask is that as soon as I get the pillows in place, they are ON. It's so comfortable and the pillows feel perfectly stable... I just need the mask to KEEP them there!

Hi Sireneh!

I just bought the Swift FX For Her a few weeks ago. So far I have mostly liked it. But I have never fallen in love with any of the contraptions that have to stick to my face all night.

I had what I think was Mirage Swift Nasal II and there was more of a little "barrel" shaped device that had the nasal pillows coming out of it. The air hose came out of one side of the barrel. That made sleeping on that side really difficult. So with the Swift FX For Her it's easy to sleep on either side. I also like the fact that it is so tiny and isn't just ALL OVER YOUR FACE! The back strap also slides up on me. And I'm sure you found out as JanKnitz said, if you tighten them much it will just hurt your nose. I haven't tried the velcro yet. My hair is very fine. I don't even know if that would work. I only woke up with it off of my nose one time. I usually just kind of adjust it almost in my sleep as need be. I don't think I'll ever find one I really like.

Good luck with it!
Now I know my cats want to kill me. They unplugged my CPAP machine.......true story.

Beth, Pugsy was recommending a barrel cozy that works with the Swift FX for her. She said it makes it very comfortable. Now I can't remember the name of the place that makes/sells them. Anyone?

I was having trouble with the fx for her back strap riding up my head and causing leaks but after I tightened the top strap it stopped riding up and stopped leaking. I definitely like it better than the regular FX. That thing leaked all the time for me because I could not get it tight enough.

Right not I have mine hanging by using a rubber band around the post on my headboard. That seems to help too. Either of the FX masks move around and leak way to easy if you don't hang the hose.

if you have long hair, put your in a ponytail at night and use it as an anchor for the back strap. That is what I do.

This is one of the masks I use. I find there is a narrow window between fit, too tight and loose. It took me awhile (weeks, with a subsititute mask in the middle) to figure out what worked for me. From one night to another I might have to adjust the silicone part up or down a notch. I am guessing that has to do with how my hair is behaving. Now that I have it adjusted, I don't need to mess with the bottom strap. It seems to work best for me if the hose is off to the side.

I tightened the top strap one notch last night and that made a world of difference!
