Help needed for translations
Help needed for translations
Hi folks:
I want to make up a small card to leave on the nightstand when on extended hotel stays (happens once or twice a year for me) so that the cleaning staff doesn't attempt to clean either the machine or the nightstand. Below is the english draft, but if anyone speaks other languages, it would be great to have it translated into multiple languages. In return for the group's help, I'll post Microsoft Word format docs that can be printed out and folded into cards as needed =)
Here's the basic draft. There will be two versions, one for those who prefer to tip the housekeeping staff, and one for those who do not.
____ Version 1:
Dear Housekeeping/Maintenance:
The machine on this nightstand/table is a medical device. Please do not clean this device or the nightstand/table during my stay. Thanks for all of your hard work.
Signed:
______Version 2:
Dear Housekeeping/Maintenance:
The machine on this nightstand/table is a medical device. Please do not clean this device or the nightstand/table during my stay. Please accept the enclosed tip as thanks for all your hard work.
Signed:
If folks just post their translations here, I will create the docs during the upcoming week and post them.
Thanks!

have you tried google's translate?
Re: Help needed for translations
It's notorious for creating some horrible translations. It's good for getting the gist of what you're reading, but not good for specific meaning like this.cflame1 wrote:have you tried google's translate?

Re: Help needed for translations
Is this really a problem? Common hotel policy is housekeepers don't touch the guest's personal property.
I travel extensively and have NEVER had one (foreign or domestic) attempt to clean any of my equipment or the surrounding area. Why would they? It's less for them to bother with. In fact, they often don't even tuck the sheet in by the machine when making the bed. (That's fine with me.)

Re: Help needed for translations
In my opinion, signs don't help.
If you make a bed, you can bump whatever is on the nightstand. If you vacuum a floor, you can bump whatever is on the nightstand. They have to do their job, and they don't have time to read signs.
I would no more leave my machine out than I would leave a laptop or camera out. Maids aren't the only people who can enter a motel room. Maybe the street value isn't that great, but maybe the guy changing light bulbs doesn't know that. And maybe the guy changing light bulbs doesn't read ANY language. And maybe he's clumsy or drunk that day.
Just sayin'.
Put the blower in the drawer, or put it in its case. It is the most valuable thing you own, since it represents your health, possibly your life. Take care of it. Especially when you are on the road. Take the two seconds it takes to put it somewhere other than "out."
My 2 cents is worth what you paid for it.

Dang! What kind of flophouses do you guys stay in? I've never had anything stolen from a hotel room! Not even change left on the dresser. I'm not saying it doesn't happen, but never to me...so far. And I often leave my laptop out.
OH! If they go to the trouble to break into your room, do you REALLY think they won't bother to look in the drawers? I'm jus' sayin'...

I usually sleep behind a dumpster in the alley beside the hotel with my cpap on a cardboard box, myself. Whole better class of people there.LinkC wrote:Dang! You put the machine in a drawer for the same reason you keep your money in your wallet instead of pinned to the front of your shirt. Sure, everyone knows where your money is already, but why tempt them by dangling it in front of them? It's bad manners to leave money lying around for all the guys in stealaholics unanimous.
My concern is someone bumping into the cpap by accident while making the bed or dusting.
If there's something you don't want dusted or moved, put it where it can't be dusted or moved. And I don't want my machine dusted or moved.
The only thing that keeps getting stolen in motel rooms is my personal white towels that I sometimes accidentally leave on the floor right next to the motel's white towels.
Maybe I should just put a sign on my white towels explaining why I want them left wet on the floor.
Talon and I know New York hotels, where the only thing holding them up is that the roaches are holding hands inside the walls.

Be sure it's multi-lingual...especially in New York.jnk wrote:Maybe I should just put a sign on my white towels explaining why I want them left wet on the floor.

Re: Help needed for translations
I travel almost every week for work. I leave my machine out, but I cover it with a towel and have never had a problem. That being said, a written request couldn't hurt.
