I woke up and my machine was off....again

Post by dusty0318 » Sun Apr 24, 2011 3:45 am

I know i'm not turning it off. I sleep on the couch. Machine is on end table above my head. I would have to some major body contortions to reach it and i wouldn't be sleeping through that. I 'm befuddled.

This would not account for the "off" problem, but, in most cases the CPAP should not be above your head.

Do you take Ambien or Lunesta? Doing stuff in your sleep and having zero memory of it happening are very rare, but well documented side effects.

Any chance of a power outage? There were a lot of storms around the eastern US last night.

I was SURE you had a PR SystemOne!!!! This is the first I've heard of a Resmed having this problem. Take it back to your local provider. If they give you any guff call Resmed and explain what its done. They'll ask who your provider is and tell you to take it to them for repair or replacement. Your local provider will take it in as Resmed will contact them and tell them they are aware and told you to take it to them.

I had to return my S8 for turning off by itself. I thought I was turning it off in my sleep for almost a year, and then caught it one day while I was awake. I brought it back to a different DME and ResMed instructed them to replace it with a new S9.

I have sent Resmed an inquiry.

A few thoughts:

First, if you have power that flickers it might be disrupting your machine enough to turn it off. If that is the case, you might want to consider using a UPS to help ride through the flicker.

Second, does your system have an "auto ON" feature? When you start to breathe with a mask on, it starts to provide pressure? Sometimes you can enable that feature. I should check on your machine specs, but you might know off hand.

Third, does your machine have an "Auto OFF" feature. That is, if you take off your mask for a period of time, does the machine turn itself off? If so, you may be able to disable that feature. If that is happening, it is possible you breathe very shallowly (or not at all) for a longish period of time (a minute or more). That will sometimes trigger the "Auto OFF" feature.

Unfortunately, while the S9's do have an Auto On, it only works with nasal masks. Full Face Masks have an airway valve in them, so the pressure doesn't change enough for the machine to figure out you're breathing into it =(
