Intellipap Smartlink Bundle vs Module alone

Post by Mawk1 » Sat Apr 23, 2011 12:39 pm

Looks to me like several of the items included in the Smartlink Bundle for use with DeVilbis Intellipap machines can be had at any local computer store/Best Buy and probably for a lot less. For example: the SD Card and the USB adapter for the SD Card that allows it to interface with your computer are common hardware items sold everywhere. Also there is a USB to USB cable that is right of the shelf at Best Buy along with a serial to USB connector that would probably be right next to it on the computer store. The software CD in the bundle is free on the DeVilbis website, as is the manual in .pdf form. There is another grey colored cable that appears to have a serial connection on one end and almost an "S video" looking connection on the other. What's that thing for? That might not be commonly available. Anyone know?

Seems to me the only thing that probably can't be purchased elsewhere (for much less) is the module itself that connects to the back of the machine and accepts the SD card for data recording. Should I just buy that alone and skip the common items?

I purchased the bundle...the only items I use are the module, the SD cards and the software. It seems once the software is installed and you have internet access, it automatically downloads any new updates. This is just my experience., YMMV

The gray cable is for updating firmware when needed. DeVilbiss is the only manufacturer, I know of, that allows owners of older machines to update their firmware for free to bring their machines up to date to the latest versions. For example those who owned older machines before last Aug. were given free firmware upgrades to allow their machines to have SmartFlex which was added in Aug. Pretty cool....

The module that connects to the back of the machine collects the data. You put your SD card into that to collect the data as needed. You can either use the card reader provided or use the SD slot in your computer/printer if you have that.
Yes, that blue eyed beauty is my cat! He is a seal point, bi-color Ragdoll. I adopted him in '08 from folks who could no longer care for him. He is a joy and makes me smile each and every day.

I just received the full package yesterday. The software CAN NOT be downloaded for free. Not all of the cables are needed depending on the computer you use. The main cable is the gray one with the ps/2 connection on one end and the serial connection on the other. The conversion cable coverts the serial to usb, and the other cable is just a usb extension cable. For $149 you get quite a bit. Mainly the module and software, mine actually came with 2 data cards. Yes these items are standard pc items except for the ps/2 to serial. That cable as Emilia pointed out allows the firmware update. My Intellipap was bought March 2010. So last night after a quick download to my pc, cable connected to the Intellipap and POOF! fully up to date. Just as if it was bought yesterday.
