How often to replace Climateline?

How often should the Climateline on the S9 be replaced? Not how often will insurance replace it, but how often should it be replaced? The RT told me that it gets holes in it or just can't be cleaned that well due to it being corrugated... Would I know if there was a hole in me (even with a Snuggle fleece cover over it)? And is the cleaning thing an issue? (I am remiss in that I don't clean the hose weekly... should I?)

I'm at about 5 months on the same hose now. about every 2 months I soak it in castile soap, rinse well, and hang it up to dry. I'm technically on my second hose, but a cat got the first one in the first week, so that doesn't count.

I have been using mine for about 4 1/2 months now and wash it weekly in baby shampoo. It doesn't have any holes yet. I am going to keep using it until it does. I did buy the Control III disinfectant from CPAP.com and plan on washing it with that after I have had it about 6 months.

something smells like mildew as soon as i fire mine up for the last two nights, but it dissipates (or i get used to it). i must admit i don't have time to wash it very often. i checked the humidifier, and there is nothing floating in it or stuck to the sides, so i am not sure where the problem is. i have had my set-up since 2/16/11 and have washed it all (except humidifier) once in bleach/water solution. I was told to wash the humidifer with Dawn or Ivory dishwashing soap only. guess i need to do it again soon.

Other than this issue with the moldy smell, I was expecting the climateline to last until August of this year, at least. I plan to replace every 6 months ONLY if I have the money since hubby not working and insurance co-pays are killing me this year!

Short answer: Whenever it breaks. No reason to replace a working hose. It isn't in intimate contact, so there's no need. If it stops working, gets holed or kinked, then replace it. Otherwise, leave it be. I'm on my original hose. 7 months now. Never been washed. No reason to. The air it transmits has already been through a filter.

I wouldn't.

I don't have a "climateline" hose from ResMed, but I do have the Aussie heated hose. I don't clean it weekly, or monthly even.

Everyone has a routine they've found works for them and that they're comfortable with. Leaving the hose alone for months at a time works fine for me.

Although I no longer use the ClimateLine since I switched to un-heated passover mode, I was hesitant to clean it any sooner than once a month. When I did, I let it sit in sink of water water than had some vinegar (1:30) and a few drops if blue Dawn mixed in. After 20 minutes, I ran luke warm water through it for a minute or two, then hung it from one of my HVAC registers to dry.

The approach that I've always taken with my equipment is to have a spare handy, and just keeping using things until it breaks.

I've had mine for over a year, and I've only cleaned it once. I allowed it to dry very well before attaching it back the the climateline leads on the H5i. I guess it's probably time I should clean it again.

I always thought that fleece covers should not be used with Climatelines. I think that is what Resmed literature says.

I suds all my stuff (humidifier, mask, climateline) weekly and then give them a soak in control iii. May be overkill but I used to work in hospitals (RN) and bugs bug me. I have seen way too much go wrong. I really can't believe how cavalier some are about cleaning. It just may boil down to how much you think your lungs are worth...

Yes, technically I think I'm not supposed to use a hose cover with the Climateline. It hasn't been a problem and I really hate the plastic hose banging around my bed, so I use it just for its texture. I hope it will work with the Cozy Hose Boss. He shows some fleece cover in the video...

It does, but I ended up having to add a 2-foot hose extension. The climateline is just a snick too short.

Control III is sold by cpap.com (and others). It is the kind of anti-fungal, anti-bacterial, anti-viral that hospitals use. I have read a lot of threads here from other who are using vinegar, clorox (which I am sure work but do they work on all kinds of bugs?) and even polident ??? (we never used that to kill bugs when I worked in the hospital) I took some time thinking about it and decided that I might as well go for the tried and true.

If you buy some fom cpap, I wouldn't bother buying the set that comes with the bucket and a small bottle of Control III. I think that is not as cost effective as buying the 16 oz bottle. I bought a covered 1 gallon bucket from Ace Hardware ($2.50) and will use that instead of the 2 quart bucket that comes with the "set" on cpap. The 2 quart bucket is too small to toss hose, mask, humidifier in all at one time.

Once you mix the solution, they say it will last up to 2 weeks. There is a "test tape" they send with it to test the strength, or efficiency, I am not sure which. I kept my solution almost 2 months (I am not recommending this) and it never showed anything less than full strength on the test tape. I think I will change the solution more often, but probably not every 2 weeks.

If that doesn't take care ot the "pink slime" that people are talking about, I don't know what will.

I've been using the same Climateline hose for almost a year with no issues i try washing it once with Doc.Bronner's soap and i must admit that it did work well,but i was kind of concern about the effect that the water might have on the electrical contacts of the hose, so i decided to try a different way of cleaning it w/out soaking it in water so now i just take a Cpap Mask Wipe and tie about a 6 ft. lenght of string to it and pull it thru the hose this way i clean the inside of the hose with no concern of damaging the hose,it has work well to eliminated odors and any possible bacteria that might be lurking in the hose.As for the humidifier tank i use the vinegar and water method. I do have a new backup climateline,but i believe that if there's nothing wrong with the old one why replace it? As a matter of fact now i'm kind of curious of how long will the old Climateline will last until it need's replacing.
