Lansinoh addiction...and side affects
Lansinoh addiction...and side affects
I use Swift FX nasal pillows. I have drier than normal nasal passages due to Sjogren's syndrome. Since I began treatment about a year ago, I have had to use Lansinoh daily -- otherwise, my nares feel strange, itchy, and just odd (can't explain the feeling). Even with the Lansinoh, they still feel odd, but at least I can tolerate the pillows most nights.
I have developed what I would call a chronic cough, and I feel it may be related to the Lansinoh. I'd like to know if anyone else has used Lansinoh almost daily, and if so, have you noticed anything like this?
I'm trying to wean myself off of Lansinoh, but it is difficult.

I can't help you with information about Lasinoh allergies, but I think you really should check any chronic cough with your doctor just to be on the safe side.
Re: Lansinoh addiction...and side affects
Lansinoh is pure lanolin, which is the oil from wool...are you allergic to sheep, or llamas or even wool? Try switching to KY or Ayer gel, but whatever you do don't use petroleum gel (vasaline) it counteracts with the silicone in your pillows and will degrade them.
Good luck

It's possible to develop an allergy over the period of a year to something like lanolin. Have you considered talking to Padacheek? Karen might have some ideas that could help.nanwilson wrote:Lansinoh is pure lanolin, which is the oil from wool...are you allergic to sheep, or llamas or even wool? I may be wrong, but I thought we could breathe small amounts of these ointments into our lungs. That is why Ayr saline gel is recommended.

My Mother had Sjogren's syndrome and her skin was prone to cracking, when she went on oxygen her nares would split and crack, she put some of her Liquid Silva replacement on the Oxygen tubes and that seemed to help.It was a saline based paste that she used, I don't remember the name of it. She also had a terrible time with skin sores if she didn't keep everything clean and keep on her Steroids. She hated taking them but it was the only thing that kept her symptoms down.

I'm a big fan of Nozoil. It's a sesame based oil developed specifically for people on CPAP and oxygen. Comes in a nasal spray.
I'm starting to feel self-conscious. I've responded in several threads about how much I like Nozoil, I am in no way affilated. It just worked very well for me.

Re: Lansinoh addiction...and side affects
Just to clarify -- I'm not allergic to Lansinoh, I just can't tolerate the pillows without it. I like Ayr gel, but it doesn't last all night so I wake up with this odd, itchy feeling. Nozoil....I have never heard of it before. I'll google to see where I can get some and maybe try it.
Thanks for your comments (although I have not yet received word that anyone else is using Lansinoh in their nostrils daily!

Gerald?,
Seems like Nozair is not sold in the U.S. Found Canada, Australia and UK sites that sell it. Well, I'll be in Montreal in a few weeks -- so maybe I can pick some up. Just wanted to make this note for other readers (who also reside in the U.S.).

You can buy Nosoil at http://www.well.ca they ship to US, the Nosoil bottle of 10ml is $15.70 US and they will charge you $14.65 for shipping.
Once I tried Nosoil for dryness inside the nostrils and I didn't like the feeling of the oil in my sinuses. Maybe it's a matter of getting used to it.
I use Rhinaris Gel a small amount inside the nares, it protect my sinuses from dryness and getting blocked. I have never tried it around the nares for better seal with the nasal pillows, I don"t know if that would work.

Yes there is something known as "lipoid pneumonia" brought by breathing oils on a regular basis. Check with a pneumologist.
