Took Me Two Months, But I Did It!!
Took Me Two Months, But I Did It!!
Cross your fingers and toes, but I think I finally got the sleep study scheduled and set up properly!
Good Gracious Sakes Alive! What a struggle this has been, but I think I finally got the left and right to get on the same track. I've been going back and forth between my doctor and the lab and spending a ridiculous amount of time waiting. I spoke with my doctor this morning and she assured me that the lab is ready to do the study starting out on AVAPS, but ready to switch over to a ventilator to try other modes if warranted during the study. The one and only Sleep Tech/RT IS doing my study (YEAH), so we're good on that front. They also confirmed she told them I was bringing my own mask.
The last thing I need and have requested is that my doctor send me the same thing she sent them so that I have it in writing EXACTLY what she ordered so they can't screw with me and try to change it at 8pm that night.
I told my doctor that I felt bad being such a pain in the backside, but she stopped me and said that she understood and agreed that I needed to. She went on to say that she knows doing a study there is very hard for me because of the distance and agreed that we needed to be extra careful and certain that we were planning ahead and getting the most out of this study as possible. That was nice to hear her say that.
Seems stupid to be this excited, but dang...what a PITA this has been.

Dx 11/07: AHI 107, central apnea, Cheyne Stokes respiration, moderate-severe O2 desats. (Simple OSA would be too easy.

I'm excited - so I know you're not stupid to be exited by finaly getting there -- and the docotor's agreement and empathy are a bonus too.
Congratulations!

Re: Took Me Two Months, But I Did It!!
Thanks everyone. After all my griping about it, I thought it was only fair that I let you know when I was finally successful.
I must have woken up lucky this morning because my doctor has already emailed me back with the specific instructions for the study. Very specific. I printed the email and put it with my husband's hotel confirmation information so I'll be sure to have it when I go.
:::sigh::: It is really nice to have this set up. Finally.

Re: Took Me Two Months, But I Did It!!
I broke down this morning and called my doctor's assistant. I explained the situation to her and expressed how I knew my doctor was very busy and being pulled in tons of different directions, but I had a real problem here. I was trying to get this scheduled (the lab was calling me to schedule it), how I was unable to get answers about what was ordered (if I did get an answer it was NOT what my doctor had told me), and was frustrated at the back and forth and obvious lack of communication between my doctor and the lab. I was getting angry, but trying desperately not to tick off my doctor by being too demanding.
I was beating my head against the wall at this point and expressed that. I hated to do it, but it was either that or my sanity would take a trip.
The woman apparently stepped up and my doctor called me back within an hour.

Re: Took Me Two Months, But I Did It!!
Isn't it nice when someone actually does the right thing? Good for you for persisting and not just accepting a less than great study. I would have caved long before now and just let them do it however they wanted, so kudos to you.Madalot wrote:The woman apparently stepped up and my doctor called me back within an hour.

Great news! It didn't have to be this hard for you but it seem as if you've moved mountains! You should be very proud of what you've finally accomplished. Sending hugs and the best of luck.
