IntelliPAP AutoAdjust w/ Flexsmart vs. RESMED 29 Autoset

Post by VWdefector » Wed Apr 06, 2011 6:44 am

Good Morning/Evening,

I have a question for all of you that have both used the DevilBiss IntelliPAP AutoAdjust w/ Flexsmart and RESMED S9 Autoset. I'm in the market for my first APAP and I'd like to hear from users who have tried both. CPAP.com has great reviews for each, but the DevilBiss is half the cost despite having many of the features of the S9 Autoset. Pros? Cons? Recommendations?

My pressure setting is 7-11 cm/h20. I'll be using a pillow or nasal mask. Thanks.

I'm not sure how many folks have used both of these as they are fairly new models for those companies. The DeVilbiss Intellipap AutoAdjust with SMARTFLEX was updated in August 2010, and the S9 is only about a year old. Chances are those who got the S9 when it came out would not have gotten an IP in Aug. too! I researched both machines after my diagnosis in July 2010, and I was going to buy the S9 at first... until I talked with the DeVilbiss rep and others -- coupled with the new model coming out in August which sealed the deal for me--not to mention the price difference. I have been very happy with my choice. DeVilbiss is a US company that has been around for 120+ years. They are highly regarded for their air compression tools for industry as well as their health related machines.

What is the typical lifespan of DevilBiss machines? Can I expect it to last a decade or more/less?

I like the Resmed ClimateLine feature to reduce rain-out etc. Have you ever had rain-out issues with the IntelliPAP? Would a tube cover solve the issue? Thanks.

I have both and like them both. The IP is my backup/travel machine; the S9 my daily machine. The IP can be adjusted to really feel similar to the S9 auto as far as inhale/exhale smoothness and feeling. I probably prefer the climateline hose of the S9, but you could do an Aussie heated hose for the IP.

Having tried both, if I had to pay out of pocket for a new machine, I'd go for the IP AND I would spring for the necessary connectors/whatever for the software piece so I could read the data without having to go online.

For what it is worth, I have BlueCrossBlueShield (not old enough for Medicare). Anyway, my DME after checking with my insurance told me what my out of pocket cost would be before I even chose a CPAP machine. So, it seems to me that I would have paid the same no matter whether I got the Intellipap or the S9 AutoSet. So, price was not a factor for me in deciding which machine to go with, and it may not need to be with you either if you have insurance. I might suggest that you look into it. That might help you make a decision...or maybe make the decision more difficult.

When figuring money and using data, the Intellipap has this additional cost.

After helping someone using this software I would have to say that I like the ResScan software better. Graphs are easier to read and correlate. Plus there is the additional ability to zoom in to tighter time frame. ResScan is free and other than a SD card reader (if computer doesn't come with built in) about $10 and in business.
