I'm going to be getting on a plane this afternoon, and will be taking my CPAP with me for the first time. I know I can take it without it being counted as part of my carry on, but what I don't know is whether it's safe for it to go through the x-ray stuff at security. I assume it should be (after all, my laptop has been through numerous times without a problem), but thought I'd check anyway. The CPAP is a REMstar with the smart card - is it okay to go through without damaging the data that's stored, or the machine's settings, etc.?
Thanks,
Scott
Traveling with my new CPAP
The X-ray at the security checkpoint shouldn't be a problem . It is at such a low power that it shouldnt even expose film. The baggage x-ray system is much more powerfull. That said I don't think it will matter..I work in a industrial x-ray lab . The radiation is in the 100-300 kv range..It will penetrate 3" steel. We have stored many cpu operated items in the exposure room with no harm..Also, the screeners have seem so many cpaps that they dont even slow down looking at them..
