Full Face Masks
Hi old friends. *wave* (And new ones!)
I have a nasty case of bronchitis. Went to put on my trusty Ultra Mirage FFM and discovered it was missing the elbow piece and the clip that attaches it. Tried jerry-rigging a few things (hat-tip, RG. lol) with no luck, so I'm having to use Afrin temporarily so I can continue to use my Headrest mask (yes, I know it's addictive and all about rebound congestion - I'm on antibiotics and hoping I will be able to get off the Afrin pretty fast). I get a new Headrest every six months, but when it's time again this go-round I'm going to get a new full face mask. So I was just wondering...
What are the "current" full face masks a lot of users love? The Quattro? I know different masks work for different people and all that jazz... I'm just trying to figure out what I want to ask for first. Fortunately one of CPAP.com's local DME stores is near me so I know I'll be able to try whatever I need...

I've had success with the Quattro and the Quattro FX -- once I learned how to fit them properly. If you go for the FX, be sure to watch the video on how to put it on.

Re: Full Face Masks
My particular choice is the Quattro. I tried the FX at the DME's and it has to be mounted a little further down the nose than the Quattro. Consequently, it almost closed off my nose making the mask a 'mouth only' mask for me. My nose would be considered longish though. I used the Ultra Mirage for a week but the Quattro seems to be a tad narrower on my face and more to my liking. In addition to my description of my nose, my face is not real wide nor is it meaty, but more sculpted if that makes sense to you. Happy hunting!
Re: Full Face Masks
I find the quattro FX and the quattro ultra-mirage to be fairly comfortable FFM. In my opinion the forehead apparatus on the ultra mirage is more comfortable than that of the newer model mirage.
However I find the quattro FX to be most comfortable because there is no forehead attachment and I think the placement of the head straps is very good. They dont slide around as much (for me) as the other models' headstraps do. I have never had zero leaks but my leaks are pretty stable at a consistently low rate with the FX. If you aren't using a padacheek liner with your FFM I recommend that you do that for sure. http://www.padacheek.com (Full disclosure: I've only been at this since November so there may be others that are great.)

The same people who own and run cpap.com (and cpaptalk.com) also own Health Management Services. https://www.hmssleep.com/main.php I learned this hanging out on these boards for years... very happy to find out they had one near me. Their service is as good in person as it is online. They gave me the auto I wanted with zero hassle. It was fabulous.NightMonkey wrote:Huh????CollegeGirl wrote: Fortunately one of CPAP.com's local DME stores is near me so I know I'll be able to try whatever I need...
Anyway, back to the topic at hand. Thanks for the advice, guys. I think I'll try on both the Quattro FX and just the plain old Quattro and see where that gets me.
Last night I was miserable, even with the Afrin. I woke up after only 4 hours of "attempted" sleep gasping for air like a fish. Not good. Somehow in my sleep-deprived haze I remembered, though, that I had another, old UMFF mask somewhere - so I went on a hunt for it, found it, and with some old parts and some duct tape was able to patch it together enough to minimize links and enable me to sleep without suffocating to death. RG would be proud. I will be sooooo glad when this bronchitis stuff is over!
Thanks again for the input, guys!

Still using MY "old trusty UMFF", too.
The nice thing about them is that almost all the replacement parts can also be acquired if or when needed.
Plus, they're still available and not as expensive as the Quattro variations.......and they're just a better mask.
https://www.cpap.com/productpage-replac ... dgear.html
Last November, the weekend before Thanksgiving, I accidentally dropped it and it landed on the forehead support and cracked/broke in a couple of places. I found that Krazy Glue works well with that type of plastic......and it's still holding together just fine.
Take care.

I will not believe that until I see it from an authoritative source.CollegeGirl wrote:

HMS has been reviewed poorly on the board, for example viewtopic.php?f=1&t=54621&p=518266&hili ... nc#p518266 and viewtopic.php?f=1&t=56783&p=533450&hili ... nc#p533450.
Also see viewtopic.php?f=1&t=45445&p=407172&hili ... nc#p407172 which was posted by an unregistered guest spamming for HMS.
Can someone set this record straight about the claimed common ownership of cpap.com and HMS?

Re: Full Face Masks
It's been years since I hung around here, so I don't know where the threads are where it was discussed off the top of my head. I'm sorry a few people have had problems with them, but I can tell you that compared to my local Apria they have been a godsend. I've never gotten anything but great service from them.
I do remember that there used to be a link you could use from either cpaptalk or cpap.com to get to the HMS contact info... that's how I found them. I remember people on the boards here being very excited when we discovered that.
Hopefully Den has a better memory than I do and can give you additional info.
FWIW, if you go to the sleep services locator on cpaptalk.com the default provider that comes up is an HMS location. Also, if you go to the HMS Sleep website: https://www.hmssleep.com/main.php and click "Patient Support" it takes you directly to cpaptalk.com.
And if you still need absolute "proof," if you know how to look up who owns websites (easy if you even know how to google), look at hmssleep.com. The owner is the same as the well-known owner of the cpaptalk.com and cpap.com website.

Re: Full Face Masks
It's not been a secret thing ever, nor should it be a "bad" thing... the fact that one or two people have had a bad experience should not color us entirely against a DME, especially when we have DMEs like Apria with a million times more negative complaints. Nor do I really consider that one post "spamming." The OP asked for DMEs in that location and someone posted and said theirs was one. I guess I just don't see anything wrong with that.

No problem. It was just a surprise to me and I am the "trust-and-verify" type.
