OT - Curious how/why people chose their nickname / Avatar

Post by 2flamingos » Thu Mar 31, 2011 10:47 am

After seeing some of the more "interesting" nicknames, I thought it would be kinda fun to see why some of them were chosen. Mine is pretty simple, I began collecting vintage flamingos some 35 years ago. When my partner and I met 31 years ago, we continued collecting. Our first on-line nickname was related, as was the name of a small entreprenueral venture we undertook.

I was called "Pugsy" on another forum that I frequented often. Partly because of my AOL screen name and partly because I have always been a pug lover and have had many of the little dogs over the years. I was called Pugsy in an affectionate way and I found I liked it so I adopted it.

For most of my adult life I've worn a beard. However, some years ago I decided that it was time to be clean shaven. Dealing with an electric razor at 6AM was irritating the crap out of me and no way to start the day. So I began a qwest to find a quieter shaving method. That led me to a few on-line shaving forums for shaving with a straight razor or a DE (double edge like the old Gilletes). This in turn led to a qwest to find the razors that worked best for me (much like finding a CPAP mask that works best). I wound up buying a ridiculous number of razors and the term for this on the shaving forums is Razor Acquisition Disorder or RAD. This led me to choosing my screen name of "RADaddict." Perhaps for this forum I should have chosen CMADaddict (CPAP mask acquisition disorder).

"howkim" is a transliteration of the Mandarin word for "gold coin."

So, are you rooster, or roster? I've always wondered! lol

As for me, J, B, and N are the first letters of my children's names, all boys...thus jbn3boys. I've used it as long as I've been actively online.

I use the Swift FX mask. During my first few months of xPAP use, I destroyed several of the small diameter hoses that are part of the mask. The small hose would only last for about a month.

My RT and ResMed are still unclear why this happened.

I did find a solution to this problem. I purchased a Pad A Cheek cover for the small hose. Went to the hardware store and picked up a pair of garden gloves that have the little rubber dots on them for gripping. I cut a finger off and stapled it at one end, and did a repeat job on the other end. Now I fasten the ends over the fittings at each end of the hose. This takes all the strain off of the hose, and my last hose has lasted several months.

Well, the vacation of choice for my husband and I is cruising. In 2000 I found an Internet Relay Chat forum, and selected CruzTerri for my nick, so from then on, I've used CruzTerri. My license plate is a derivative of the nick, CRZTERI - yes my husband calls me crazy LOL.
