Cpap and tooth pain

Post by Marke » Thu Mar 24, 2011 12:35 pm

Has anyone experienced tooth pain at night
from air blowing across the teeth.
On some nights its as if I need a root canal, the pain is that severe
My Dentist seems to think its sinus issues I do have a few crowns
and some gum receding.
Any thoughts?

I had the same problem when I first began. I then bought a heated hose and the pain stopped immediately. I think it was the cold air blowing across my teeth - only discovered this after I had paid alomost $1000 for a night "teeth guard"!

Oh dear, that's the million dollars question to me. I indeed had a root canal last December because of pain in a front tooth which started slowly on November. That fixed NOTHING. I had a mouth-guard the kind to forbid grinding teeth made by dentist which is useless because it makes too big pressure over the concerned teeth, it does't means all the mouth-guards will be bad. This guard was supposed to forbid the tongue to push against the teeth.

After that I realized I was grinding the teeth in the night and maybe pushing the front teeth with the tongue.

This started after one year on CPAP/APAP. First 3 months using an Actival nasal mask (pushes the teeth backward) and then 8 months using a Headrest nasal pillows (pushes the front teeth to the front). Weird stuff.

My solution: using a mouthguard-tapping, Sensodine type toothpaste, trying a FFM (what a pain this is wow); still finding the solution. I noticed when I used again the Activa nasal mask the pain almost stopped, that's hard to understand because that mask stand over the upper teeth pushing it back Maybe I don't push the teeth with the tongue or grind because of that constant pressure. Who knows.

My next experiment is to find something to keep my mouth close the night without direct pressure, I have the impression subconsciously I do weird things when I sense the air is going out of my mouth while asleep.

The air is not cool and I don't think a stream of air is going out my mouth, my leak rate is 0 everyday, only with the FFM leak rate was noticeable last night.

If you find the solution let us know, good luck.
