4 sleep studies - 10 Years of Bipap - Still Tired

Post by Rosiemoto » Fri Mar 18, 2011 3:01 pm

So I think I'm ready for a 5th sleep study. This question is for the lab techs who monitor sleep studies or those who are highly familiar with the process.

I had 4 Studies from 2001 through 2004. In retrospect I never got past about an 80% effectiveness in treatment. Having Apnea since childhood and being 45 now means that I never had a baseline from which to measure fatigue. (I'm always fatigued and therefore feel that this is 'normal')

In 2010 I had been seeking help from a Psychotherapist who got me to pay attention to my sleep and hyper-focus on ways of improving it. I spent time on the forums and found people who had thrown away the chin strap and replaced them with Poli-Grip Strips and 3M Duocore Nexcare type tape. This made a huge difference for me.

Now I'm wondering if my very high pressures (18/14) from the original sleep studies are valid. It is possible with my new 'sealed circuit' (glued and taped shut mouth) that I might have lower pressures.

Specifically - did the techs back in 2001-2004 keep turning up the pressure because I was 'huffing' it out until they got to 18CM where I 'titrated' (as good as they could get). I'm going under the assumption that no medical person is EVER going to (or would have) suggest GLUE AND TAPE because of the (slight but potentially fatal) risk of asphyxiation.

I would have more data on sleep from the data card on my RemStar Pro M but the unit got water in it and I'm back on an older box.

Respironcs System One BiPap with integrated Humidifier
Philips Comfort Lite 2 Mask or Respironics OptiLife
Tape my mouth shut with Poligrip Strips and 3M Tape
33 db Earplugs
