I would appreciate any ideas/reports regarding a good chin strap. I have always had trouble with the chin strap becoming displaced as I sleep and not helping me. I have used several popular straps without much benefit. I recently got one of the 3 inch wide ribbed straps and at first was very pleased since it actually worked. However after 10 days or so use I have found that the strap gives abrasions under my chin, and I have a line of sore, peeling skin.
Does anyone have any type or brands that has been successful??

Any Chin-Strap Suggestions
Re: Any Chin-Strap Suggestions
Have you tried the Papcap? Many members report it works quite well and very comfortable.

Re: Any Chin-Strap Suggestions
I just received my PapCap yesterday so last night was my first night using it. I feel incredible today! One of the lowest AHI numbers I've had for quite a while. But the best part was waking up refreshed and rested. I don't know if I can give all the credit to the PapCap but I should be able to tell in a few weeks how much it contributed to this wonderful rested feeling. YMMV
Re: Any Chin-Strap Suggestions
I've read that the PapCap is good, but I haven't tried it yet.
I've been using the black Respironics Premium chinstrap with success.
I think the reason many people don't have success with chinstraps is that they don't have the patience to keep adjusting the strap until it works.
Took me a while to get there.

Re: Any Chin-Strap Suggestions
I have a suggestion for you. Videotape yourself sleeping. Watch your mouth. Are you 'huffing'? Is the air going in going right out your mouth?
If the answer is yes then throw the chin strap in the trash. It took me 10 years to figure out that a chin strap was never going to work for me. When I first got on the bipap in 2001 Google didn't really exist. In 2010 I finally pulled up a post that changed my life, it basically explained that with higher pressures (like mine) or other situations, unless you have a closed circuit you aren't getting the right pressures. The medical community won't tell you to do this because of liability about asphyxia.
Go to Walgreens/Rite Aid - buy a Purple Box of Poli Grip Strips. Also buy two rolls of 3M Nexcare Transpore Clear Tape (they come in two packs).
Males should shave before bed. Put two poligrip strips across your lips - close your mouth - put about three 6" strips across your lips from just under your nose to below your mouth. If you had an acidic meal take something to inhibit reflux prior to sleep.
Enjoy better rest and no tight muscles in your face from fighting the chin strap all night.
You would think that this situation would be 'caught' during a sleep study. Maybe they know but feel with the risks involved (hello they are my risks to take) they won't mention it.
By the way I am 18/12....waiting for the implant to be FDA approved.
I had four sleep

Re: Any Chin-Strap Suggestions
Rosiemoto,
Wow am I glad I read your post! I am on my 3rd week of nasal pillow CPAP. My mouth stays shut (jaw does not move) but the air pressure sometimes makes my lips part and the air escapes...which wakes me up. So i will try taping my lips shut....but am afraid the tape will slowly come off my face during the night and wake me, I'm such a light sleeper! Just have to try it. Is the configuration you describe critical? The poligrip strips are parallel to your lips and the clear tape is at right angles across the lips?
I dont have those exact items on hand but will try alternatives tonight.
any advice for aerophagia? (burping/bloating)
Thanks for your help!

To sleep: perchance to dream: ay, there's the rub

They offer full refund if not satisfied so worth giving it a try....it works for some, not for others.Pugsy wrote:Have you tried the Papcap? Many members report it works quite well and very comfortable.
