If you could only have one mask - which one would it be?

Post by sleepyred » Tue Dec 20, 2005 6:24 am

I have a mirage activa nasal mask, and I would like to buy another kind out of pocket. What do you suggest? I know this is a loaded question, but I'll ask it anyway.

History - my activa keeps leaking and waking me up at night. I've adjusted and re-adjusted, called my DME, etc. with no solution to my problem.

So I am going to buy one out of pocket and I have read and re-read posts and still cannot decide on one.

I would appreciate any responses telling me what is your favorite mask and why you like it so much.

TIA and have a wonderful day.

Do a forum search for different masks.
I vote for Breeze.

sleepred,

I may not be the one to comment on this, but you asked so here goes. I have only (1) mask model that I use. It is a ResMed UltraMirage FF. In fact, I have (3) of them. I need an FF due to chronic nasal congestion.

Good luck finding one that works for you.

sleepyred the type of mask depends on your needs, position you sleep in, pressure, etc. I too had the activa, however, had major problems with leaking. I have tried quite a few masks and finally found the perfect one for me in the Headrest, formerly the Aura, by Aeiomed. I'm a tummy sleeper and have found this the best mask for me. My pressure is a whopping 16 and I've found even with the slight leak, it works the best from all of the other masks I've tried.

Good luck,
Melinda

My top two were the Activa and the Aura (headrest), but got tired of adjusting my Activa in the middle of the night and can only do the nasal pillows for a few days before they hurt. So I ordered the Somnatec Somnaplus. So much lighter than the Activa and keeps the best seal I have ever had. Been having my lowest numbers ever with it.

After most of the year searching I think I finally have my mask. Only complaint is the headband has velcro straps isntead of quick clips, but once I have it on I don't care.

I have the Activa (really, really doesn't work on me), the Comfort Lite, the Swift, the Aura whatever it is called now, and the Breeze.

The Swift wins the race for me......I like the minimalist approach it takes and the comfort of it. No significant leaks either. I'm a back or side sleeper, not stomach.

Ditto for me what Colorado Jan said!! I also vote for the SWIFT and for the same exact reasons Jan stated! Couldn't have said it any better!

well, almost everyone else on here will disagree with me but I vote for the Comforcurve...VERY comfy for me and few leaks, (seems to be a different opinion for everyone else though lol) I sleep on my side and stomach and back and have no probs really at all.

I also have the Swift and a mirage ultra FF mask I think it is..the FF is ok for a few nights if I have a cold or whatnot but diff not my fav. THe Swift well, darn nasal thingys hurt my nose. and its LOUD in my opinion but if I am having an off night which is maybe once a month with the CC then I will use the swift. There are lots of ppl on here though that love the Swift...

Well,

Again, it appears that I am a majority of one in mask choice. But, Iamb used to that by now. Telling someone which mask to buy is like telling someone which car to buy, isn't it. Everyone has an opinion of which one is best. It appears that the best is the one that you use and like, if you "like" any of them.

I can't blame you for testing the waters before you buy any of them.

Good luck in your quest and keep smiling

Swift for me, and nothing comes close (yet). I did like the aura, but got tired of it filling up with condensation every night regardless of the humidifier setting. It also had nights where it wouldn't stay put no matter what. I've made peace with the Swift.

Have you done anything to tweak the Mirage FF for leaks, or does it just naturally fit you well? The noises it makes while vibrating on my cheeks make it impossible for me to sleep, but if I could get those fixed, I'd use it now and then.

I can't let LilBuckaroo be all by himself, so I'll put in a vote for the ResMed Ultra Mirage FF, too. It's the only one I've had and wouldn't give it up.

I've tried at least a half dozen masks, and have had very good success with the Breeze.

Allen,

The only thing that I done to "tweak" my mask was to adjust the straps. This was a trial and error process. The leaking nearly dove me crazy(er) for a while, but I decided that if I have to use this blasted thing, I'm going to make it work for me, not against me.

No trade secrets were used. I don't have any.
