Re: lost of smell
I'm not familiar with CPAP causing lack of smell or taste. However, about a year ago, I totally lost my sense of smell and taste for about three months due, I suspect to some supplements I was taking. After that it came back slightly better than before.

Re: lost of smell
After all this time it won't be due to cpap. Go and get checked out it could be a symptom of deeper problems.Suresh Karrunan wrote:I have been using ResMed CPAP machine for the past 4 years, lately I can't seem to smell my food, can't taste my food

I've been told I'm tasteless, too.
And that's by people whom I count among my friends. And as for not smelling, well, I think that's a matter of personal hygiene.
Seriously, if you've lost your taste/smell, get checked out by an eye/ear/nose/throat doc. It's likely a sinus problem. Most of your sense of taste actually is olfactory. And if you can't olfacate, you'll be without your sense of taste. However it could be a symptom of something that you need to take care of.

Have you ever used zinc nasal swabs? Unhappily, zinc, taken nasally instead of orally, has been linked to loss of the sense of smell.
I would not leap to blame CPAP use. Many other factors are far more likely.

I had a severe Flu/Virus/Sinus problem a few years back & had an op to remove polyps from my nose/sinus. I totally lost all sense of smell & it was suggested to try using the herb 'Basil".......Well Sir Basil accompanied me everywhere for a few months & yes my nose & smell now works perfectly. Used Basil on & in everything, try herbal basil tea. Hubby became quite jealous of Sir Basil Good Luck, but check it out medically as others are suggesting.

Re: lost of smell
I noticed textures more when my sense of taste and smell was gone. I began to lose weight because nothing compelled me to eat. (Thankfully, I could afford lose weight.) I also noticed that peppers, both the 'Piper' and 'Capsicum', horse radish and wasabi were not affected. As taste and smell came back, bitter stuff tasted mutely like lawn clippings smell. I could eat lemons like oranges. I couldn't tell whether something was too salty, too sweet, etc.
The english language has words for blind, deaf and dumb. (Also mute). We have no traditional five-or-four-letter words for someone with no sense of smell or taste, nor is there a word to distinguish between the two.
There is a modern medical term 'anosmia' for lack of sense of smell. For lack of sense of taste: 'ageusia'.
