Users of BOTH Activa and Confort Gel
I wanted to get opinions of users who have both used the Activa and the Comfort Gel. I currently use the Activa, and I am very happy with it but I am getting a red, chapped look going above my upper lip where the mask sits. I was wondering for those who have used both masks, which do you prefer and why? Does the Confort Gel leave these red marks? I was going to buy a Comfor Gel for backup on those nights when I am really chapped. I want to know if it is worth it for me to do this. Thanks, Jen

Jen, (IMO) My wife likes the comfort Gel over the Activa. She has the same complaints like you do on the Activa. The Comfort Gel does not give her the leak rates and the AHI numbers as does the somnoplus-(listed below) &(also her favorite)If you decide to try the somnoplus, I would hold off until the 2006(early). There is a improve version coming out on this mask...

Comfort Gel
Hi
I use the ComfortGel every night and tolerate it quite well. I rarely have leak problems, but sometimes the forehead piece does not want to stay adjusted thru the night. I think that it is better than the last mask I had the Comfort Classic. but I am trying the Swift next.
Good Luck with whatever mask you try, it is such a personal choice. Try many and choose the best for you if you have that opportunity.

I use them both and get good results wth them although I find that the Activa is morecomfortable for me and leaves alot less pressure spots. I do roate every week or two though because is seems like they lose some of their effeectivenss after a while and the switch works wonders. If I had to pick one I would vote for the Activa though....love the way the airpressure makes the seal....should be very loose on your face till the pressure inflates the mask seal.
Hi Jen,
I have been on CPAP for a couple months now and fortunately I have an excellent Sleep Center (NOT a DME) that lets me try any mask I want to see if I like it before I buy it. I have tried five different ones so far. I have tried the Comfort Gel and Activa. I thought the Comfort Gel was good UNTIL I tried the Activa. I did the 'fitting' of the Comfort Gel by boiling it and fitting it to my face. I used it for about a week and I had red marks that lasted for several hours on the bridge of my nose and on my cheeks. I have NO marks whatsoever in the morning with the Activa. The seal was not near as good as the Activa which I wear fairly loose on my face; the Comfort Gel was pretty snug and I did experience a fair amount of leaks. I can also sleep on my sides and stomach with the Activa and not have any leaks; couldn't do that with the Comfort Gel. As soon as I turned to my side I had some leakage. I did my sleep study with the Somnoplus mask and I am in the process of trying this one at home. It is VERY small in comparison to the Activa and exceptionally quiet. Like TH said a newer version is coming out in 2006 so I will wait for that.
It really is a personal preference. I have read the posts here on masks and that is why I chose to try the ones I am trying. The popular masks are popular for a reason! I will caution you that if you try the Activa make sure that you get the correct SIZE for your nose! That will make a huge difference.
P.S. I have been using the Activa for 2 weeks now and last night I tried to switch back to my favorite Swift...................couldnt fall asleep and had to change back to the Activa!!
Good Luck
