Why doesn't PM work now?

I've tried repeatedly to send a PM. The composition window always:

takes the To: member name
prompts for the security code
takes the [Send]
returns with an error that there was no recipient named
this time does NOT prompt for the security code
accepts the To: member name
takes the [Send]
returns with an error that there was no recipient name
this time prompts for the security code
takes the [Send]
and then continues as above,

always complaining that there is no To: member name
alternately prompting for the security code and then not prompting for the security code.

Do you click on the add button or the find a member line? You can't just simply type the name in the box and send. The recipient's name has to come up above the box and will have a small delete symbol next to it.

I used to have to put with that until I got around it.

Here a some things that seem to help me in the PM lottery -

Do not preview, this causes problems.
Always use the reply or quote option if available.
Do not copy and go back to main page to spell check.
Having the recipient listed as a friend seems to help.

Tell more about the security code. I have never seen it, so there might be a clue there. What exactly is it ?

There's something funky with the log-in routine on some browsers. Consider logging out and then logging back in. Does that change anything?

Also, do you have your browser set not to accept cookies or allow javascript? This will definitely hamper your ability to send posts or PM's.

This might have been the problem. I think I typed the name in rather than find a member.

Anyway, I got my message thru.

I find that I unless I click PM next to someone's post, I have to add them as a friend before I can send them a PM. I don't know why I can't just type their name, but it doesn't work.

Interesting. I've never had to add any name to my friend list in order to send a PM. I do the PM from the PM page. Never have, that I recall, clicked on the PM link on the forum page. And I usually preview the message before sending. I wonder if it is browser related. I use Firefox.
