newbie. overwhelmed. REMstar Pro with CFLEX has E-25

Post by lovestulips » Thu Mar 03, 2011 8:40 pm

HI. Im a newbie, to this site, and to learning about my apnea.

I was diagnosed in July of 2010, but my insurance, though it covered the sleep study, does not cover the cpap machine.
I have a 1500 deductible and they said the machine cost more than 2K, though they would cap my cost at 1800$ which there is simply no hope of me paying.
Since then, a friend has sent me their machine since they dont use it. It is a Respironics REMstar Pro with C-Flex. I have the power cord and hose, and then today a friend gave me her extra mask to try.

The mask is a nose only, but it felt fine and the fit was good. (thats also they type I tried in the sleep study) Unfortunately, the machine shows error, E-25 and when I try to turn it on, it just starts up, then beeps and stops. I Found this website: http://rswilson70.tripod.com/ and tried to do the reset, but dont think it took. The link to find the clinician manual takes me to the login site for respironics and I couldnt find the manual.

I dont have a copy of my sleep study report. My Dr suggested that I contact the sleep study people again and see if they would set up my machine for me, however my insurance specifically says they wont have anything to do with any machine or parts that I didnt buy from them (at the outrageous price and my deductible, of course).

Im pretty desperate to figure this out. Im at the end of my rope. Im exhausted all day, I cant stay awake at times, driving can be frightening because I get so tired...etc.

Im hoping to get this machine going and hopefully get better. Is it possible>???

Check prices at cpap.com for a new machine. If I had to purchase one out of my own pocket that's were I'd start.

Is this a new or slightly used machine?
Sounds like something is broke or non functioning. Not sure how easy it might be to fix.

Check above link for Error codes.

E-25 ERR_DRIFT_FLOW_TOO_HIGH •Occluded or restricted pressure tube •Defective flow sensor •Replace Flow Tube •Replace Main PCA

It is a used machine. I opened it up and found a tube that has been broken off, and doesnt look like I can fix it. The little nob the tube fitted on broke off into the tube.

So, I believe I will need a new machine. Ugh. Am going to contact the DME today and ask more questions, now that I am more informed.

I have a used machine that works if you can't find anything better. I picked it up off Craigs list, works fine, $80. I got it for travel and have since gotten an even smaller one.

Go to the link posted in this thread and see if it looks like what you need. The part is over-priced, but available.....and cheaper than buying another machine. Yes, it's a different error code, but generally the same problem.
Years ago, there was a post which showed how to repair the broken hose connector with a small finishing nail and some hot glue, but the pictures have since been removed from the forum.

In most cases you will pay a lot more if you go through a brick an mortar DME--two to three times as much unless you can find a DME willing to work with you. Be sure to shop around before buying. There are manuals available for all machines, and if you know your titrated settings you can set up the machine yourself.

You have a nice offer here for one for $80. You can find brand new machines online for very little in comparison to what a DME will charge, and used ones on Craigslist and Secondwind.com.
