Cpap supplies, delivered or mailed by DME's?

Post by Redrite » Thu Feb 24, 2011 8:53 pm

Do alot on this board get their mask replacements tubing filters etc ...by mail or do their DME's deliver them. I heard some get an Auto Delivery. If so, do you have to sign up for that with your supplier and do they call each time they mail them out? I'm curious since our DME is going to a mail delivery option soon.

Lincare calls me, tells me what it's time for, IF I OK it, they send it to me by mail or truck... They are a very hungry company Jim

They have lately came up with a automated caller, I didn't order enough from it, so they put me back on the live call beg list. I hate automated callers, even worse at SUN night 7 PM...

Crapria does all their supply deliveries by "drop shipment"--so much for "pay us more because of the great service we provide"

Some companies call and remind you to order supplies and some don't. Some people like the reminders and some don't--this should be a consideration for choosing your DME for supplies.

When I started with Apria a couple of years ago, I had to call them for supplies (which generally were delivered to my home the next day). Within the past year or so, they've been calling me if I don't think of it first. This was especially convenient when it was time for a new mask as we could discuss pros and cons (the caller used to be an RT at the hospital, and fitted my first mask, so she's quite helpful). Also, if I change mask styles, I am offered the option of going in for fitting help.

I can get supplies delivered to me by mail, but I always go into the DME (just 4 miles away) to make sure I get what I want.

I've purchased all of the supplies I'll probably ever need through CPAP dot COM (and a few private purchases from individuals) in the first few years of my therapy. For the initial out-of-pocket purchase in 2005, I was reimbursed 80% by my insurance provider. That was the only year I met my ($750.00) deductible. In the ensuing years, I haven't had any other medical expenses, so the deductible wasn't touched. Instead, I purchased extra machines, masks, cushions, hoses, filters, headgear, etc. out-of-pocket and at an amount that I could afford, spread out over the years. I doubt that I'll live long enough to use up the extra "stuff" I've accumulated........as I have a track record of making things last a LOOOOONG time.

Cardiosom is my DME and they will mail my supplies too. However, I just live a few blocks away from the place so I typically just stop by and get them. I only deal with them every three months so its usually a visit so they can read the card in my machine too. After reading some of the other posts and how their DME's automatically send or do reminder calls, I see how Cardiosom could do a lot better as far as service.

By mail, and I call them to order.

I had signed up for automatic delivery with them last year when I first started with them, and they have yet to make a single automatic delivery or call to me about it.

I can't complain too much. Whenever I call for something, it's delivered in a few days.

Auto shipment of supplies has never been discussed with my DME... But then I didn't get my machine from them. I get only masks, replacement pillows, and sometimes filters from them.

I live in small town. DME (12 miles away) is sort of an extension of one of the hospitals in a larger city about an hour away. Not affiliated with large DME like Apria or such. I usually just stop by the office when I need or want something. Once they didn't have the replacement pillow in stock and had to bring one down from the big city office. They said "tomorrow or next day", I was pleasantly surprised when the next day someone from the DME called me to see if I was home and said he would drop the nasal pillow off. This is small town service. I told him he didn't need to deliver and he said that was okay, he was out delivering other stuff too. This was at nearly 6 PM.

This was when I lived in town. Now that I live in the country I would just go to town to get supplies.

I call when I need something new. They supposedly had an automated system and insisted they called me every three months, but I never heard from them. Now I just keep track of the time and order as needed. My masks really only last the three month replacement schedule. This way works fine for me.
