LT pillows

Post by Monterrey8 » Thu Feb 24, 2011 9:31 am

I use a ladies LT mask. How long do you use the pillows? I wash the pillows every morning with a mild, pure soap. They seem to get soft pretty fast. Is there any way to extend the life? When they start getting soft, they do not fit as well and flatten out a bit more so you do not get the air circulation as well.

When I used the LT nasal pillows I easily got from 2 to 3 months from one set. Other people reported much less time before they had problems. This has been discussed often here but I can't get to the search the forum and have it work because my internet connection wants to time out...slow today.

Don't know how vigorously you wash your pillows? I would barely rub them and rinse with just minimal water. But then I have dry face and not much oil. I don't know if that has anything to do with it.

Most insurance will allow 1 set of replacement pillows a month. Do yours seem to fade before that length of time?

What size are you using? I just posted a medium on the swap thread (I'm using small). My insurance only replaces them every 6 months

I don't use the LT now. I use the Swift FX now.
Let me go look at my stash of unused LT's, I should have some smalls that you can just have.
I will PM you as to what I have. May take a bit to sort through the experiment drawer to see what I have.
Can you by any chance use the XS also? I have both because I could use both.

If it's to the point where you are going to throw it away, try this:

Wrap it really well in foil--it shouldn't be tight against the pillow, just well sealed against air coming in. Throw it in the oven and bake it at about 350 degrees for about three hours. Take it out, open it, and let it cool.

The only reason to wrap it in foil is to keep any grease or odors in the oven from getting on it (I now have my "roast beef" pillow!).

Hubby did some research and found that at the microscopic level, this type of silicone looks like a plate of spaghetti--that's what allows for the malleability and stretch. However, that also allows moisture to be absorbed over time, and that causes the softening. There's an actual word for this and I'm not remembering it at the moment. Anyway, I baked my FX pillow, it stiffened the inner cones up again to where it felt and functioned pretty much as new. I haven't used it a whole lot (the smell puts me off a bit and I haven't experimented in boiling that out and rebaking it yet) so I don't know how long the stiffening lasts. But what the heck, if I can get another week or so out of a pillow, I'm happy. I'm waiting for another one to soften and I'll try it again (using foil!) and track how long it lasts.

I wish mine would last a lot longer than they seem to. I have to replace mine about every 2 weeks. They start to not seal as well pretty quick but I do love this mask. I wear a small size. Tried to get a med to work but just too big. My insurance pays for 2 a month and I certainly do use them at that rate. I do wash them every day by the way.

I get about 8-10 weeks out of a set of pillows. I am going to try the O-ring lab rat fix ( viewtopic.php?f=1&t=45777&p=411389#p411149 )and see if that gives me a few more weeks. I stalk the ebay auctions to get good deals on them... just scored 2 sets at $9 each. Retail is $22 ea. so I got a good deal.
