CPAP in movie "Hall Pass"

Post by jdm2857 » Tue Feb 22, 2011 5:50 pm

Has anyone else noticed that in the longer version of the TV commercial for "Hall Pass", there is a scene with someone sleeping while using CPAP? He's using a full-face mask and ResMed S8 series machine.

Being that the movie is an adolescent comedy, I can only guess that it's not going to do much for the public's perception of CPAP.

I saw that in the commercial too. Figured we ought to see a spat of them since sometimes it seems the hollywood writers copy each other or take a theme a run with it, and a couple sit coms have shown a CPAP lately. It will be interesting to see how they treat the topic.

We saw an invite-only prescreening of Hall Pass tonight. I don't want to give anything away, but there is a scene where derogatory comments are made about one of the characters using CPAP. The audience roared in laughter. My wife and I were shocked that CPAP was the target of humor (but we will get over it ).

The movie had some very funny scenes but there were several scenes that were absolutely vulgar. I saw two things that I had never seen on the screen except in porno films. The rest of the audience was also shocked.

A big thumbs down from many of us tonight for Hall Pass, but make your own decision.

Yes! I just saw the commercial and thought it was so cool that Resmed got that publicity. Good for them, they have great products! No, I don't work for Resmed lol I have worked for a Sleep Specialist for 5 years and our primary products came from Resmed.

Well then go see the movie. CPAP got no good publicity. The machine and mask are made to look like torture and very derogatory comments are made about CPAP and the CPAPer.

Ahhh....so it's the pudgy unpopular and most likely unattractive one? and the cpap just added to his being the butt of jokes?

I'm pretty sure I won't see the movie because I just don't enjoy sophomoric humor, but somehow I'm not surprised that the cpap user is overweight/pudgy/unattractive. Heaven forbid they show a sexy girl using one!

Rotten Tomatoes is giving it 19%, so I definitely will not be seeing it (despite my curiosity about those two things Rooster alluded to).

Odd thing about when I saw the commercial: It was during an episode of "The Biggest Loser" and there was a shot of one of the (YOUNG 20-somthing) contestants using a CPAP either just before or just after the commercial. Looked like a PR System One to me.

I've always thought it was kind of cool how Biggest Loser seems to promote CPAP machines and make them more friendly for people that have to use them by showing them on TV. UNTIL!
The previous episode of biggest loser: http://www.hulu.com/watch/329381/the-bi ... ser-week-7
Seek to 27 minutes. (Quote below starts at 27:40.)

Bob Harper: "I think for Daphney to not feel like a burden to her children, she's going to have to take control of her body and her mind. We're going to have to release this stress. We're going to have to get this weight off of her. We're going to have to get that CPAP machine out of her bedroom. And when I can get her in that position, she will no longer feel like a burden to her children."

Wow Bob. Thanks for continuing the stereotype that CPAP = fat people. There are many skinny people that are on CPAPs! If Dapheny gets the weight off of her (and I'd be all for that) and she can't get rid of her CPAP machine like Bob stated, she's going to feel like crap! What the heck! We need more awareness that a CPAP is not some sort of fat people device. Many overweight people have OSA, but some skinny people do also! I think biggest loser just showed its true self.
