Now I get DME frustrations! UGH

Post by hannahF » Mon Feb 21, 2011 7:38 pm

So I got fitted last November with my CPAP gear, including my mirage quattro FFM.

I requested Auto Delivery for monthly replacement pieces- and received instead supplies for "Nasal Swift for Her" pillows.
That wasnt gonna work to replace my quattro cushions! So I called about the error, and visited the DME personally - to get my Quattro cushion replacement instead.
****They threw the swift pillows in the trash even though I had not opened them. I asked to be taken off auto delivery, and I would pick up my supplies.
A few weeks later - I again receive by postal - nasal pillows for "swift for her".

My sleep doc and I decided I needed a new mask due to leaks and sores on my nose. So I called for an appointment at 4:30. I appeared a few minutes early, and they said I was late, my appointment was to be at 4pm. Well - I never would have committed to that since I only get out of work at 4pm. But they kindly accommodated me anyway.

I requested to try the liberty hybrid, and they fitted me, and kept the other various nostril cushions that I read online are included for precise fitting, and just left me with one size to cope with.

Not only that - the headgear is the wrong size, and they did not offer to help replace it at all.

I think I will call my sleep doc and have him send my RX to CPAP so I can get what I need!

Lots of people have had the sore bridge of the nose problem with the quattro. You might be able to search the archives and find hundreds of posts about that mask. But the quatro has an adjustment you can set to keep it from digging into the bridge of your nose. With the mask OFF of your face, turn the knob on the forehead part clockwise (I beleive) and the part that rests on your forehead should move out more. There are even some step marks and numbers so you can keep track of the setting, and increase or decrease the position. Look at the mask and see if you can see the numbers...

Hi Mike - great advice. I did try "dialing" the mask in and out, and could get a decent seal from time to time... I left out the crucial detail that my nose bridge is thin, and has been broken several times. I really liked the quattro overall, but my readings from the S9 data card ...(probably not all that accurate) suggested that it wasnt working.

I really liked this quattro mask for comfort, and would recommend it as a first try ( or the new FX).

I wish it worked better for me. hopefully the different design may be they key.

Sounds like Aprea....???

Courious...what would you be replacing monthly that you need auto delivery on. The cushion on the Quattro should last 3 months or more.

--unless you have my OLD DME! they code the quattro cushion as a MASK-(without cushion) so BCBSNE will pay them $95,
locking me out of any cushions until I am entitled to a new mask.
Unfortunately, Resmed cushions are not that long lasting--my Micro cushions rarely lasted over 30 days.
Needless to say, I now have a new DME!--and am wearing a Respironics mask.

Shucks, Chunky, your previous DME provider billing the Quattro cushion w/the code for a MASK-(without cushion) is FRAUD. I'd double check my EOB from Medicare just to be sure and then I'd report them to Medicare.
