I'd first like to thank everyone in this forum that took the time to help guide me in my efforts to resell this machine. I've been in touch with a couple auction sites and a few consignment dealers and I am waiting to hear back from them.

Meanwhile, I took Jule's suggestion to contact ResMed and learn more about the product I'm "pushing" .What I learned is that although the "Malibu" model is no longer in production it is the EXACT SAME MACHINE as the Auto 25 with one minor technological adjustment to its original platform (s7 vs. s8). The Malibu (aka Auto 25) has absolutely no known engineering, mechanical or operating issues. No part of the Malibu has ever been subject to recall and this machine is fully backed by Resmed and covered by warranty.

ResMed Customer Service Representative, Michelle Barbat, sent me a list of providers in my area where the unit and can be taken for an assessment. Furthermore, in the unlikely event of a problem, the provider is instructed to ship the unit directly to ResMed for evaluation and/or repair.

Masks, replacement parts and other compatible accessories for the Malibu (examples: filters and replacement batteries) continue to be manufactured and sold by both ResMed and independent Health Care Providers across all regions. Software, reference materials and the complete user manual (pdf) is also available to download from the ResMed site.

Finally, because of the critical nature, I sought out the honest and unbiased opinion of an expert in this field. MySleepMask com Chief Operating Officer and Compliance Specialist , Weston Headly stated “For a reasonable price, relative to other top-quality BiPAP machines, the VPAP Malibu provides the best of both words: bi-level functionality to make exhaling as easy as possible, and auto-adjusting pressure to accommodate patient’s changing needs.”

His article (written 1 2009) went on to say that the VPAP Malibu automatically adjusts the therapeutic air pressure on a breath-by-breath basis so the patient gets the therapy needed but never suffers from more pressure than is needed. Unlike other BiPAP machines with a fixed inhalation pressure, the auto-adjusting pressure of the ResMed Malibu accommodates a patient’s needs as they change over the course of a night, between nights of deeper or shallower sleep, and as the patient’s body changes. Headley explained, “As patients get older, gain or lose weight, or even change their medications, their BiPAP pressure needs to be changed. Normally this requires going to the sleep lab for an overnight study – which is both costly and inconvenient for patients. The VPAP Malibu does this each night for no cost and in the comfort of the patient’s home.”

When I contacted Mr. Headly's office to see if, after all this time, his thoughts had changed. I was relieved to learn they had not.

Another "expert" I searched for to inquiry about the Malibu's performance is a Malibu user. "Elaine" is a 54 y/o woman I met through the physical therapy department at St. Joseph's Hospital in Orange. Elaine suffers from multiple medical conditions, dating back 20 plus years, that require resp therapy treatment. She has been using the ResMed Vpap Malibu for almost 2 yrs. and although I admittedly do not understand the signficance of numbers or their combinations in "Cpap Talk", I clearly saw in her expression and tone that she had found relief and peace in allowing herself to trust this machine.
