I found out that the Hans Rudolph Full Face mask does not go clear back to the throat area like most full face mask do.
The Hans Rudolph cups just the very front and tip of the chin. If the Hans Rudolph goes all the way back, your mouth cannot stay open.
If I knew how to post a picture I would.

??? Sev, I had a Hans Rudolph full face mask once. I know what you mean about it cupping just under the chin. But I don't understand your saying that most full face masks go "clear back to the throat area".I found out that the Hans Rudolph Full Face mask does not go clear back to the throat area like most full face mask do.
I've used other full face masks (Respironics ComfortFull, and the one I liked best - ResMed Ultra Mirage FF), neither of which go under the chin, much less "back to the throat area." They stop just under the lower lip.
The only other full face mask besides the Hans Rudolph that has a cup-like feature under the chin at all (that I'm aware of) is the Fisher and Paykel HC 431 full face mask. I don't believe the F&P goes clear back to the throat area either. It goes just barely under the chin, as far as I can tell.
If any full face mask a person tried on actually touched the front of the throat under the chin or even approached the throat closely, I'd think the size was selected poorly (probaby a size way too large) or a person has an extremely receded chin.
I'm glad the HR suits you well, Sev.

Some people may think the Hans Rudolph goes back a little farther than most, somw full face masks go back to the jaw bone the HR does not. I get along really well with mine.
As for the Ultra Mirage-full FAce mask, you don't want to know what my husband thinks of it, he had a few choice words that I cannot repeat. He did not sleep at all last night because of the noises and he was adjusting it all night long even after he put it on and had it adjusted at the VA.
I told him that the mask if to tight would make noises and if the mask was to lose it would make noises. He tried everything last night.
He cannot wait to go and have a sleep study done to get a different full face mask.
His first and last sleep study was 5 years ago.

Just got my mask and it's great... anyone considering a FF mask should look at a HR unit. Most DME's don't (won't) stock HR masks and will try to push a low end cheap, ill fitting Respronics Full Comfort or similar units masks. DME's will charge 150 to 175% more than the list price for a typical lack luster Respronics or similar. We wonder why our insurance costs are so high??

Masked Ranger I am so glad you like your mask. How do you like the mask over all? Pros and Cons.
My hubby found out that he needs a new sleep study because his is only 5 years old.
He still is worried if I go to sleep before him, he has to make sure my mask is letting out the air and my machine is on. He is really looking into the these machines now because of me and talking to him what I am learning on the forum.
We may not all be on the forum, but word of mouth and first hand experience are great teachers.
