Update - Respironics PR System one - stop and start
Hi all
Just lately my system one has been doing something strange. Every so often at no particular time it will stop air flow, beep and after a few seconds start again. I have not been able to get to a light fast enough to see if it says anything on the screen when it does it. I am not sure how often it has done it, but it's probably woken me up about 6 or 7 times in the last 2 weeks. It's only a second or two so it could have been doing it every night in the last 2 weeks and I have not noticed. The times when I have noticed have all been at different times of the night.
I've checked the water level at the time and it has been fine. I've scrolled through the menus and everything seems the same and fine. Machine says there is still plenty of space on the data card.
Has anyone had this or knows what causes it?
There might be some detail on the card that shows what is happening, unfortunately the card reader on my pc has died last month and I've been slack about getting a new one.
I am off to my DME tomorrow and its still under warranty so I'll take it in. If it's a known problem it would be good to have some info to back me up.
Thanks.

Re: Respironics PR System one - stop and start
I haven't read of any PR SystemOne's stopping & then re-starting again on its own w/in a few seconds - but - I have heard of some that have just plain quit and won't re-start, even w/unplugging and plugging in again.

Re: Respironics PR System one - stop and start
The only thing I could think of is if the Auto Off is enabled, as well as the Auto On, maybe you are having a long apnea, in which the machine is shutting itself off. That might be enough to startle you into breathing again, when the Auto On would kick-start the machine back on. I think it might be JohnBFisher who had that happen (machine turning off). If you can access the clinician's menu, you should be able to see if the Auto Off is enabled (on) or not (off). Otherwise, I don't think I've ever heard of anything like that. Hopefully your DME will be helpful!

Thanks
I don't have auto on or off turned on. Maybe that is malfunctioning. I'm frustrated that its not easily fixed but relioeved it does not seem to be a common problem. Hopefully I can just get a new one.

Do be sure to let us know what your DME has to say and decides to do about this, please.

If not then power interruption or malfunctions are the only other things I can think of.Guest wrote:Thanks

Make sure the wires to the power pack are secure. DME will likely just replace that first.

Update - Re: Respironics PR System one - stop and start
Spoke to my DME.
DME said that in the last few months they had 3 or 4 machines with the same problem. DME said it seems that the problem machines are those sold around Jan/Feb/March 2010 (in Australia). I don't know if the same issue was happening in the US. No official word from Respironics, just observations of my DME.
The machine has been sent back to Respironics. She said for the others Respironics had just sent a new machine as a replacement rather than fix it. DME did not know what was causing it.
It appears that the machine turns off and starts again several times a night. Fortunately for me it had only been happening for about 2 weeks. They had one poor unfortunate where it had been happening for a few months and he ended up crashing his car. He said he felt tired but the information he got from his LCD screen said he was getting good therapy!
It does show up on the detailed data if you look at the graphs, but otherwise there is no real indicator, apart from feeling it start and stop and the double beep. I had noticed this a few times, but the data showed that I had slept through most of them.
I should have posted this sooner as now I cannot recall exactly now how it looked on the graphs. I think it showed that the pressure would drop to starting pressure and then climb again, but it might have actually been something more sinister. DME spotted it fairly quickly and could trace back how long it had been happening.
Anyone else buy a PR1 around that time who had problems?

Yes. I bought mine in May 2010 in Sydney. About 2 months ago it just stopped one night and turned itself on 4 hours later (I could tell by the data). When it did it again 2 weeks later (only for 1 hour) I took it back to the supplier. Respironics just replaced it with a new machine - no questions asked!

Sorry that I missed your first post on this subject.Gerald? wrote: Anyone else buy a PR1 around that time who had problems?
I experienced exactly the same symptoms with my PR System One Auto. I had purchased it in April 2010 from cpap.com. It first presented this symptom (a turn off and immediate restart) after about one month of use, and again after three months. It failed completely in month 4 (August). I returned it to cpap.com under warrantee and it was replaced by Phillips-Respironics. The replacement apap continues to work flawlessly.
As an interesting aside, when my apap stopped working, I found that I could get it to operate normally when operated from a 12 volt battery. It would only refuse to operate when powered by 120vac. I have no idea why this was the case.
Sure was glad I had a back-up machine. No-one on xpap should be without.
I'm workin' on it.
Re: Update - Respironics PR System one - stop and start
For those of you who still have one of the "start and stop" PS S1S, would you please check to see what firmware that "defective" PR S1 has in it.
For those who have received a replacement, would you also check to see which version of the firmware is in your replacement?
It just occurred to me that I just might have one of these start/stop PR S1s here now on loan from my DME provider. I got it 14 Jan 2011 and had NO PROBLEMS w/it until 30 Jan 2011. My sleep suddenly went to h*ll in a hand basket and I thought it was mask leaks. My mask is about 4 months old but I've started having problems w/the headgear hurting my ears. I called my provider to order a new mask.
Then this thread got me to thinking about those wave form reports. I had been assuming the "breaks" were leaks too high to be reported.
I'll try to post an image of the Wave Form report and the preliminary report page to illustrate. Plus I'll go try to figure out how to check which firmware this PR S1 BPAP Auto has in it.

My original, defective System One was software version 1.07. I received it from cpap.com on April 16 2010.Slinky wrote:For those of you who still have one of the "start and stop" PS S1S, would you please check to see what firmware that "defective" PR S1 has in it.

The replacement System One is software version 1.24. I received it from cpap.com on Oct 19 2010.
There was another recent thread about the various software versions that have been issued. IIRC, the latest version is 1.30 or something like that.
I'm workin' on it.
Re: Update - Respironics PR System one - stop and start
Oh, duh!!! Thanks, I remember that thread. I'd already checked and posted the firmware from the two PR S1s I've had the use of. I was just thinking it was the EncorePro software versions, I guess. Tho, IF I thought about it even for a second I KNOW my EP2 is v.2.2.14.0.
Okay, the two PR S1 BPAP Autos I've had experience with have firmware v.1.22 and v.1.24. The v.1.22 just quit and wasn't about to start again. The v.1.24 is the one that I think might be starting/stopping on its own during my sleep that I will be posting the two EP2 report pages from.

If you are equipped to run them on 12vdc, I would be interested to hear if you can duplicate my experience that a System One that has stopped working on 120vac will run on 12vdc.......
