Why is AHI/AI higher with full face mask than nasal?

My new S9 autoset is maxing at pressure of 12-13 and my AHI is avg of 12 and AI avg 8. I use the Resmed Quautro full face mask. When I switched back to my Resmed Activa nasal mask the AHI dropped dramatically to below 5 and the AI was about 1. I have zero leakage with full face and about 20 with the nasal mask. I am concerned that I am not doing as well with the full face mask that I have used for over a year. Should I go back to the nasal mask. (Yes I did change the S9 autoset setting for the mask type)
