Talk About Rip Off

Post by Severeena » Fri Dec 02, 2005 8:29 pm

My husband's bother also has Sleep Apnea and he uses a bi-pap, well he just called tonight and low and behold the DME charged his insurance company $4,000.00 and the copay was $400.00

I told Tom he could have gotten the bi-pap for about the same price as the copay on cpap.com.

This is horrible.

The $400 copay seems to be inline with BMI...

Sharon, it looks like you misled him. A Bi-Pap is a lot more than you told him.

.........and what a DME bills and gets paid may be very different things.

I myself have a 50% copay, and although my DME bills more, they don't get it. I pay exactly what the insurance pays and they let me know.

Just letting you know, you may have jumped to conclusions.

Cheap Bi_Paps direct from cpap.com (about the cheapest by far) rarely drop below $1,400 & typically (for latest / current models) cost around $1,500-1,600.

Retail they are listed as about double that & up to $4,000. The Synchrony S/T has been listed as high as $7,900.

$400 will get you a good CPAP - most AUTOs are above $400.

I have to agree that it is terrible what DME's charge the insurance company's. I was very suprised what billmyinusrance.com charged my insurance company.
If I have to pay out of pocket then I do order from cpap.com

I never told my husband's brother anything about the prices, but I thought he could have gotten his bi-pap a lot cheaper than what the insurance company was billed at cpap.com is all.
