Cpap Pricing

Post by BHS1111 » Fri Jan 21, 2011 4:22 pm

I have recently purchased my 5th cpap machine through a new provider (at my doctors office) because of the poor local service (it was good until last year but the only company that had a person with knowedlge had her move and I was no longer within her driving area (a registered tech). I was just going to buy a low priced battery backed up model or replace the water resovior on the one I had for my camper and as a back up out of pocket.
But I let the new provider talk me into the new resmed s9 with all the bells and whistles, I had told him that I had got the insurance to buy me a new s8 the year before because my previous one had burnt out (lots of letters from the tech) but he had his "Insurance Person" check on it and she said my insurance would cover the new s9. I told him that the front of my insurance would always say yes we will cover it but the charge would come back denied every time, I know because it took me 6 months and I had to prove with a letter from the insurance (Blue Cross / Blue Shield Manages our self insured plan (25% and keep the spoils)) that they said they would pay for my second cpap, I had the first one for 2.5 years and thought is was about time to get a new one after my second sleep study. They had said yes but then denied it because I had had the other one only 2.5 years and said that I probaly should not have got a script for one from the doctor. I however do not mind buying one out of pocket for my own convince so get a script ever year in case I find one I would like to try.
The issue, the person who sold me the s9 said he would cover the cost of the machine if my insurance would not pay for it, and he still might, or i can return it, I however would like to give him the option of just losing his profit, so I need to know the price he is charged with for a
S9 Elite™ CPAPwith Climate Control Kit™
The clinic is trying to bill a total of $1772 with the hose ($91 for the hose) or $1681 for the cpap and humidifier. the lowest I can find on line is $1091.
I am guessing that there is at least a 40% markup but I do not know for sure so any help would be appreciated He will not lose any money I have already paid $190 for his consul plus what the ins. paid

I can tel from your post what i would say. First and foremost who's therapy is this? Yours or someones else's? ??? Being that this would be my fifth cpap machine, let me see, that is 5th machine, by a longevity of an estimated 5 years of insurance replacement (estimated @ 8 hours a night X 365 nights in a year = 2920 hours a year X 5 Year life of a machine = 14,600 hours of life before insurance will replace, correct.) Then I would guess that if I needed a new machine I would just buy one having the script in hand. But then you have recently purchased your fifth machine through a new provider, they talked you into a s9 after the insurance had purchased you the s8 the year before. May I make an assumption here, I assume that you are no newby to this, or an I jiust a stupid F***!!!!!!!!!!, fifth machine 5 x 5 = 25 years Nix on you. The "Insurance Person" said they would cover it, I assume you have that statement in cold hard black and white print! If the person who sold you the new s9 said he would cover the cost of the new machine if the insurance would not pay for it I would hold him to it Balls to Bones but that is just me. (some consider me an A**) but I am who I am. Because I personally stand by what I say and I expect the same from others the same. But that is just me balls to bones. Belly up to it, put your b**ls on the line man up to it after 25 years of (said ) therapy You aint no better off than the day you started.

Of course I have his word on it and a reciept that says paid in full from a private hospital chain that also puts lots of fine print with everything. 5th machine, I like to get a new one every other year (Been 10 years now) Have given one that still worked away, burned out one , have one with a battery and am waiting to see for the next one. I will probalyy give the older one away if the ins. will pay for the new one, I really didn't need a bunch of input on my personal life, just the wholesale price of a machine:)
