New Group on Facebook

Post by Kahfree » Fri Jan 21, 2011 12:01 am

Hi everyone.

I hope saying this on here is not forbidden, and if it is, I apologize and will remove my post.

Most people have face book and since I am diagnosed with Sleep Apnea and am now using a CPAP, I thought I might turn my diagnosis into a positive thing and start a support group. I love this site, and plan on staying, but for those who are on face book and would like to check it out, I came up with a phrase and name for the group. I also registered a name as a dot.com and hope to have a real site up and running in no time.

Please check it out.

SWAP Support for Sleep Apnea. (do a search on facebook)
SWAP stands for "Sleeping With Air Pressure".

My Site will be SWAPnea.com

Hi, I hope the name doesn't confuse people into thinking it's all about trading masks ! Good luck.

Not that.

I predict you will be overrun with people looking for spouse-swapping sites.

In addition to SWAP, "Sleeping with air pressure" will just be another tickler for those guys and gals.

Very naive choice of names.

You will be amazed at how many of those people are around. They had a convention near my home about a year ago and booked an entire hotel for the weekend. According to a local newspaper the hotel staff reported they were extremely well-behaved and courteous guests and gave good tips.

Well, I am sure some of them use CPAP.

BTW, I won't be joining the group on FB. My friends would have too much fun if they saw I "Like" SWAP and my wife might kill me.

I think that's called Swinging/Swingers, dear. My own mom and tons of my friends work in hotels and I've never heard it called swap, just/only swinging... now, I do think of 'swap meets' but I don't care if non-CPAP people misunderstand what I'm in on Fb anyway. I'm going to go join. Thanks, OP!

But it is pretty dead.

I thank you for your comments. I am sure that some people will want to think of it as a SWAP site, but when they learn thats not what its for, they may just go searching for it.

I agree that some of the cpap groups on facebook are dead, but thats because who ever started it never kept it up. I would not come here if no one posted. I am thankful for this site, it has helped me already in the last week.

Facebook privacy problems

Post by MidnightOwl » Fri Jan 21, 2011 2:44 pm

Those of us still in the job market (or who may end up returning to it) should probably think twice before joining a facebook group that identifies us as having apnea. Employment discrimination is alive and well and more and more employers are looking at facebook every day. Not to mention the ongoing question of just how facebook might package and sell that information in the future.

In the FB search box type "swap support" and it pops to the top of the list.

Excellent point.

Set your privacy setting tight if you want to be part of it but you are right.

I have several friends who have more then one Id on FB - one for private and one for public identity.

You can't discuss anything on the internet under your own id if you need work; not religion, not politics, not health, and not life styles of any sort.

I am sorry, never thought that someone could be discriminated against for this and not allowed a job due to a medical condition. I am self employed and never gave thought to it. What about employers finding your information on this site? I am just asking because this is a public site that I am sure can be loaded with spies for work related issues. I hope no one is EVER discriminated against due to Sleep Apnea or any medical condition. If there is concern I understand your not joining. Thanks for the input. Perhaps I will disable the facebook page. When I have he actual web site running I can enact privacy features to protect people.
