Hi. I'm a new CPAP user (2 weeks). When delivered my S9 came with a Resmed Activa nasal mask because the supplier did not yet have the Swift FX in Thailand. Over the last two weeks, I found several problems with that mask. Yesterday my SwiftFX arrived and I used it for the first time. Here are some comments and data comparisons (my data -- your mileage may vary!):
1) Leak rate seemed really high with the Activa, not sure if the levels were from mouth breathing, not a proper fit, etc. But routinely the max Leak was around 40, the 95th percentile around 30 and the median around 12. Last night with SwiftFX my max Leak was 15, 95th percentile 6, and median 0.
2) Usage: My nightly usage of the Activa was about 4 hours. Sometimes I would wake up having pulled the mask off. But mostly this was due to falling asleep without putting it on, then waking in the middle of the night and putting it on. I am someone who reads before bed, it's how I fall asleep. With the Nasal mask on, I could not read, the mask interferes with my ability to see in front of me. So I would hope I would realize I was falling asleep, then put the iPad down and put on the mask. But often it didn't work that way. With the SwiftFX it does not block the eyes at all, so I can read confident that when I fall asleep the mask is already in place. Last night I got 6.5 hours with the SwiftFX on -- by far my longest usage.
3) Mouth breathing: It seems to me from the condition of my throat that I had minimal mouth breathing with the SwiftFX. With the Activa this was a regular problem and I would often wake up in the middle of the night with a very dry sore throat. With the SwiftFX it did feel like there was more pressure in my system and in fact there were some moments before falling asleep when it felt like I wanted some air to escape my mouth but I think some of that had to do with taking very deep breaths. We'll see how that develops.
4) Snore Index: With the Activa, I had a very low snore index. However with the SwiftFX there is no snore index!! I can't believe I didn't snore at all. I'm guessing that this mask doesn't pick up snoring the same way as the Activa? Anyone have any insight?
5) I feel great today, better than the mornings with the Activa, I'm sure because I got a longer sleep with the therapy! Seems the SwiftFX will be a better option for me!
Have a nice day. Andy

Re: First night with Swift FX
Congratulations. It is the best when you find a mask just for you!
My husband is one week into therapy and switching back and forth between a few masks. Tonight he will try the Swift FX.
