Grateful...

Post by tomandlu » Tue Jan 18, 2011 10:30 pm

I was diagnosed w/REM-stage sleep apnea in June of '09. The first morning I woke up after a night w/my CPAP I felt better than I had in weeks, maybe months. After a few months on therapy I had lost 30 lbs and was telling people I felt better than I had in years... Now, a year and a half later I have lost 90 lbs (did have bariatric surgery 50 lbs ago), am at goal weight and feel better than I have felt in 25 years. I think I remember (a dream or a memory?) someone I was dating 20 years ago tell me I quit breathing in my sleep. The surprising thing to both my sleep doctor and my endocrinologist is that after losing this much weight I STILL NEED MY MACHINE EVERY NIGHT.

I am so grateful for the surgeon's office that required I have a sleep study before surgery.
I am so grateful for the sleep doctor who worked with me to find the best settings.
I am so grateful for my spouse who has been by my side throughout all of this.

Bottom line - now that I weigh less than I did when I was 18... and I feel better than I have in 30 years... I think I've had some level of sleep apnea all this time. And finally, now that I'm 55, I'm getting it treated, and I FEEL FABULOUS. I love my machine because in the morning I wake up and feel good, get up ready to dance and work out and embrace life.

I just wish everyone would have as great a response to treatment as I have. It is wonderful.

Luanne

Congratulations! Don't you love it when something works better than you had ever hoped?
