A note to my brain
A note to my brain
A note to my brain.
Brain, I know that for many years you have felt the need to keep me from falling asleep. My head meeting the pillow was your signal to think, sing, plan and be active. All in my best interest I know so I wouldn't fall asleep and not breath.
But, we're ok now brain. We're on our c-pap machine and doing good. It's been a year now and it's ok to let it go. We're safe.
I know it's a habit we have. Habits are hard to break.
But this one has got to STOP.

Re: A note to my brain
Been there! The most annoying was the singing...my brain would pull up songs I haven't heard in forever and play them...I would be lying in bed thinking ".....really?? WTH?? Where did I get this??? Shut UP!". Normally, that would be great, just not when you're trying to sleep!
Hope your brain gets the message and takes a break from inviting insomnia over to play.

Re: A note to my brain
My brain likes to trot out every worry, anxiety, and issue I've ever had. Even guilt about being mean to some kid on the playground 45 years ago. I drown it out with podcasts (love my clip-on iPOD!). I rarely get past the introduction to the podcast, but it SHUTS MY BRAIN UP

Use it. Sing the same slow sweet song over and over and over.
I also worry - about things that happened years ago. It is not about that, it is about stress in my life. I shut it up by writing and re-writing stories in my head, they progress very slowly, it is hard boring work designing a universe, you keep having to revisit everything to keep it balanced. As a goddess I am still learning.

Re: A note to my brain
Oh my gosh!!!.....Exactly the kind of creativemindedness, oh, so clever, witty, kind of mindspeak I really, really needed to come across right now. Heartfelt letter to the non-stop whirlwind of a brain....I guess they do say, so I've heard anyway, that some of the bestest innovative ideas come from deep within the unconscious mind...so that must be the solution to my whole problem now....Lack of sleep + lack of oxygen to my brain = The explanation as to why I can never bring one creative endeavor to it's completion before embarking on another...wait, scratch that, think that issue falls into yet another cateogory..sticktoitedness. LOL Oiy vay.. thanx so much for the uplfiting smiles
Just went for my very first night of fitting for equipment and titration last night.. and lets just say.. Do I want my sticktoitedness to keep on improvin... cause I'd hate to have to ditch my lastest new plot for the new alien sci-fi sequel art I was dreamin up last night in the 3 hours in took me to fall asleep..wouldn't want my brain to think all that effort went to waste now. I surrender, I surrender,,...take me to your leader. Thanx for lettin me babble.

Ugh, I know... which is why I end up staying up too late, too frequently. Because I hate those moments of pre-sleep vulnerability when the BRAIN ATTACKS with all those irrational (or sometimes not so irrational) worries, regrets, whatevers.

Re: A note to my brain
I too have a hard time getting my brain to shut down when I go to bed.It seems that if my family members have a problem they always call before I go to bed.
It's so hard to get life and it's problems off your mind at night.
Some nights I don't go to sleep at all, just can't get the switch to turn off.
Have a good night.

Re: A note to my brain
I know there are MORE of us out there.
I love all the above posts.
I would like to think it's smart creative people that go thru this.
I'm creative, a dance choreographer but I never dance in my head at night.
I'm ready to let it go.
I wonder why all this stuff doesn't come up during the day.
I believe I was using my bedtime to hash things out, worry and generally disturb myself.
Like I said it became a habit.

Your new machine will help "smooth it down". There is much work in making it stop. And if you want to hold onto it, it will stay.KatAstrophe wrote:Oh my gosh!!!.....Exactly the kind of creativemindedness, oh, so clever, witty, kind of mindspeak I really, really needed to come across right now.
