Respironics Encore Viewer on Windows 7

Post by andy88488 » Tue Jan 18, 2011 9:04 am

I don't know if it's of any interest to anyone, but just to let you all know:

I tried installing Encore Viewer 1.03 on 64 bit Windows 7 Professional, and it did not work. The install ran okay, but I got a number of errors when I tried to run the program, and it never worked. I installed XP Mode (which is a virtual Windows XP computer, and is free with Windows 7 Professional), and tried installing Encore Viewer under XP Mode. That worked, and I have been able to read my smart card and everything.

It's a little complicated to explain the whole thing, so I don't really know if I can provide too much technical help. But I just thought I'd let people know that it's doable without too much trouble.

Did you make sure ALL the Windows Updates were completed before the Encore install? Esp. SQL Server 2008? And reboot a couple times. Just curious.

Yes, all Windows Updates were completed. I'm religious about keeping my machines patched. As for SQL Server, I don't know, I let the Encore Viewer install take care of that. I didn't try patching it after the install.

I was getting a lot of .Net Framework errors when I tried to run Encore Viewer under Win7. I called Respironics, and they said that neither 1.0 nor 2.0 was really supported under 64-bit Windows 7, because there were no 64-bit drivers for their smart card reader. However, I found 64-bit drivers for mine.

I would recommend you install Windows XP mode for Windows 7 (depending on what version you have) and then installing the software inside of your "Virtual" computer. You can google XP virtual mode to find out the specifications. Good Luck!

I waiting on delivery of the software and this is definitely going to be an issue for me. I have Windows 7 Pro 64-bit system, but husband has advised that my hardware set up would not allow us to run XP in virtual mode (he tried - he's a systems admin so knows how). My laptop has Vista and is also a 64-bit system. My little netbook is running Windows 7 Starter, I might be able to view data on it, as it is not a 64-bit system. Hope it runs on it.

I installed Encore Pro 1.8 & 2.2 (NOT Viewer) with out a hitch on 64 bit Win 7 Pro. But I updated to Net framework 4 BEFORE the install. I was pleasantly surprised how smoothly it went. It was extremely slow so you have to allow time and not rush it but it found a 64 bit driver for the Mako card reader too.

I have tried and used both Encore versions to be sure and they work flawlessly.

Just for others who may be wondering, Encore Viewer works fine with Windows 7 Professional 32 bit.

I have an e-mail from the company from back about a year ago when I got a new 64 bit computer with Windows 7. They told me Ecore would not work with 64 bit but they were "working on it." A few months ago I e-mailed again and was told that they could work with me "online" and they would let me download a version that would work. I e-mailed back on how to proceed and they never responded back.

FYI it will work with 32 bit machines but not 64 bit machines. Major problem since many newer computers with larger memory are 64 bit.

Some time last year a member posted instructions on how to install EV to a 64 bit machine - being non technical I gave it to my son and he was able to install in on my computer, only hiccup is that you need to save as a PDF and then print. I saved a copy of the instructions and have scanned it and would be happy to email it to you if you think it would help. Just PM me.

viewer run a check and will fail for 64 bit OS, In theory it will work, but the installer will cause it to error. There have been reports of people installing it on a 32bit and transfering the files to a 64 bit and works ok. I just asked around and got a link for the Encore pro which has both 32, and 64 bit support

There is no need to run a virtual XP environment to make it work.

If you install and copy the files to the X32 directory under Program files on your 64 bit Windows OS from another 32 bit install it works just fine. Apparently there is a problem with the installer on the 64 bit OS. You then need to find the executable and create an icon for it.

Then again, if you don't have a 32 bit computer to install it on first - you would have a problem. Perhaps you could find someone who has a 32 bit OS and simply install the code there - then copy the files to a USB flash drive and move it over to the 64 bit OS. Then uninstall it from the 32 bit computer.

There is a long thread on the forum on this if you do a search. The code runs just fine on my Windows 7 64 bit machine. It's the installer that is the problem.

Does anyone have a copy of Encore Viewer I might be able to get? I'm using the System One, so i'd need version 2.0 if possible.

You can buy a disk from the company that hosts this site, https://www.cpap.com
Here's a link to the page that has the Encore VIewer:
