I removed the headgear from my mask to clean it yesterday, and then when I was ready to get set up for the night - the headgear vanished. It was late, I was tired, so decided to skip a night.
I have the most horrible sore throat today! (along with exessive drowsiness).. I finally found the head gear had dropped behind my nightstand - So I am all set for tonight.
Is this a typical side effect from being off CPAP treatment for one night?

You probably snored all night accounting for the sore throat--or else you're getting a bug of some sorts...........and the headache is probably from multiple apnea events making your sleep fragmented...........and yes, even one night will make this happen. Amazing what a little air can do, isn't it?

I made a business trip to CA last summer and managed to not pack my mask.
I called CPAP.COM and got one next day air, but I was miserable all night.
I searched the room high and low looking for something I could use to pressurize my head.
No luck, I was as useful as hammered doggy doo doo the next day and SOOOOO pleased to see that Fedex package in the afternoon.

Agreed. First time I saw sleep doc--before sleep study was ordered-- he looked down my throat and said something about it being "evident" I snored. It didn't occur to me to ask what that meant. He looked at my throat again after I had been on therapy for 3 months, and commented on how the irritation was clearing up nicely. That time, I asked, and he said that snorers can have red, irritated looking throats similar to sore throats. And, he pulled out some pictures with examples of snoring v. non-snoring throats. Amazing. Who woulda thought?scrapper wrote:You probably snored all night accounting for the sore throat

Yep... when I have fallen asleep on the couch accidentally without my mask on, I woke up from even a pretty short nap with a sore throat. Like others have said, the snoring is likely the cause--your throat has become used to not snoring now, so even a little bit of it can irritate your throat.

Snoring maybe, more likely stomach "acid" being sucked into the throat during apneas.
It’s been shown that repeated apneas can cause a vacuum effect in the throat that can suction up your normal stomach juices into your throat. This “juice” contains not only acid, but also bile, digestive enzymes, and bacteria.
