Do You Dump Out Your Distilled Water Daily?

Post by KimberlyM » Wed Jan 12, 2011 11:06 am

I didn't want to hijack the other distilled water threads. I seem to put more water in the humidifier than needed nightly and the manual says to dump out water and rinse daily. I hate wasting that much water and don't see how it remaining the the humidifier is any different than it being in the jug. Do you dump yours daily? What happens if the CPAP machine runs out of water, does it cause any damage? I am a newbie, so on the cautious side!

I check the water level in the morning.

If I think there's enough to get through the next night without adding more distilled water, I don't dump and clean.

If I think I will need to add more, I dump and clean.

I top off the water in my water chamber every couple of nights so that it won't run dry and I dump and clean it with a mild soap and warm water when I stop and think how long it's been since I cleaned it - maybe once every 2 weeks or so.

I dump the little remaining water each morning. I rinse the chamber, then add distilled water plus a little extra to ensure the tank does not go dry. There is very little waste and the air being pumped into my lungs is clean.

I don't dump, I just top it off if there is not enough left to get through the next night. Thus far I have never cleaned my humidifier tank...its been two months. Mine is so difficult to clean...All I would be doing is add regular and shaking it out.

I plan to get the dishwashable S9 chamber when its time for a new chamber.

Yep, same here, with an occasional trip through the dishwasher instead of the mild soap and water cleaning.

I just add water. I only dump water if I am packing to take a trip.

I dump the little remaining water, open the chamber and invert it onto a clean dry washcloth to completely dry before using that evening with new distilled water.

Since discovering that at pressures over 4 the turbulence allows some of the water to become an aerosol and make it into my lungs, I dump and do a quick wash every morning.

While I don't consider this a big problem, I would rather tax my immune system by playing with my grandchildren than by blowing "dirty" water into my lungs.

and hopefully by playing with your grandchildren and taking on those young virulent viruses your immunity grows stronger with each one and is now in top shape!
