Nasal Aire II question about subjective airflow sensation

Post by Ted_S » Tue Nov 29, 2005 9:14 pm

First I must say that the company that makes the Nasal Aire II has the best customer service I have ever encountered, bar none. I had bought the sizing star and then thought the resulting purchase was too big. They sent a size smaller which leaked, so I guess I have the right size after all.

Anyway, I accommodated to the prongs up my nose after a week or so and it is fairly comfortable. But I've noticed that I feel 'air starved' when I'm using it. The best comparison I can draw is that feeling you might get if you start with too low a ramp pressure...it feels like you are breathing in faster than the machine can deliver air. I surmise that the small diameter hoses of the Nasal Aire II are the culprit; though I realize there are two of them I don't think that their total diameter is equivalent to the diameter of most delivery hoses such as found on the Swift or even a regular mask. I also don't know about the resistance to air flow of the two hoses vs the one larger.

I've had to retire the Nasal Aire II for the moment and am relying on the Swift. Has anyone else had this experience with the Nasal Aire II?

(I should have noted this is with CPAP at 17)

NA II is one of my top two favorites. I can't say that I notice any difference in pressure between the two. My other favorite is a Full Face Respironics. Quite a difference in the two, I know.

I am sure someone knows more about size of hose vs pressure in hose than I.

My pressure is 13/9 (Bi Pap) and maybe would notice a pressure difference if I was at your pressure.
