What if We lose power? I don't own oxy meter...

Post by FatiguedMe » Mon Jan 10, 2011 10:19 am

We are snowed in here in NC. If we lose power, how can I sleep? This is an honest question! I do have a recliner, but I need advice on how to sleep in it. Reclined back, up etc. Please any advice is appreciated.
Thank you

As upright in the recliner as you can without letting your head drop forward/down toward your chest.

Thank you RG. So far we are good. Ice is suppose to come in behind this snow. We almost always lose power. Am praying we don't tonight.
I am gonna have to get a battery when the funds allow it.
Thanks again! D

I know it's too late now but go to a medical supply store (some drugstore pharmacies may have 'em too) and buy a soft foam cervial collar that fits comfortably around your neck and keeps your chin from dropping onto your chest. Mine cost $7; I got some soft fleece to wrap it in so it's extra soft and works as a sorta 'pillowcase.' This is an emergency fix when sleeping in the recliner. In my case, I wear it when sleeping on my back as I'm having to do while my shoulder heals.

Most of us do not wish to ever return to life without cpap.......however in an occasional snow storm, life must go on........... No sense getting all bent out of shape over it.

I don't have an answer for you, but it boggles my mind that one of the companies that makes these machines hasn't developed a battery for back up.

Dunno about the others, but Respironics sells a number of different battery packs. Even one designed for the Resmed S8!

But they ain't cheap!

Google "respironics battery"...

I have a battery for my cpap. I believe yours uses a M style connector. Go to radioshack and get a car adaptor with a M style connector . Then go to Wal Mart and get a car jump starter. Plug in and you are set. You could even keep this setup permenently keeping the jump starter plugged in it will always be on line.

I have been doing this for 8 years and don't worry about power failures.

When I first started cpap I bought a collar to try while sleeping in bed, with the same thought in mind. I still used my cpap but it was a Plus model with no data.

When I showed my DME she just laughed right at me. Maybe she was just circling her wagons?

I found the collar too hot for me so just stuck it in the closet.

DB - I'm rootin for ya girl. Are you on Tri-County Elec.?
