Mornings

Post by onemorething » Tue Nov 29, 2005 8:03 am

I would like to know how others feel in the morning after being on the cpap machine all night? I have a Res Med S7 Elite and the nasal pillow is small compared to the first mask I had. I sometimesthink I would feel better if I had an adjustable bed, so I could bring my body up at an angle.Any thoughts would be great.
I have been on CPAP TALK before, but I recently moved. If anyone has also bought a different bed I would appreciate knowing what that is.

I have a Select Comfort Sleep Number bed and I love it. I do wish that they made one that was sleep number and adjustable. That would be awesome.

One thing that has helped me when I sleep on my back is a thick pillow under my knees. I drastically reduces my back pain in the morning. If I wake up with back pain, I know I have slept on my back. Otherwise, the bed cured 95% of my back, shoulder and hip pain.

Cybergoon!

Thanks for the quick reply. Does your bed feel like an airmattress? i have heard good and bad things about the bed. Someone said it was like an air mattress. This could be a different bed. THe idea of a pillow is good. I sleep on my back, but I really like to sleep on my right side. Then I look like someone has stamped my face with the strap. I am working on that, too. i have been on this for over a year now. Life really doesn't have to teach me everything! THANKS

The bed is an air mattress, but to me, it doesn't feel like one. There is a box for the base, then the "mattress". Inside the zip-open mattress on the bottom is padding, then the air chambers, then more padding, then the zip-on pillowtop just like a normal bed. Basically, you air the bed up to a high pressure, lay down in it (it should be very uncomfortable), then start letting air out until you feel all of your pressure points give way and stop releasing air. If you have a Select Comfort store in your local mall, they can give you a demonstration of it. That was all it took and I ordered one the same day I went in to try it out on a whim.

I have had it for 3 years now and know that I will never own another type of bed. It comes standard with a 20 year warranty. I haven't priced them lately, but when I got mine, a friend also purchased a "normal" bed and he paid $300 more than I did for his. Granted, he got a cali-king, I only got a queen. Since I got mine, everyone in my immediate family has also purchased one.

As far as you sleeping on one side more than other positions makes me think that you probably have some shoulder pain when you get up in the morning. With this bed, that disappears.

Also, my wife says she just married me for my bed!

I sleep with a wedge pillow so my torso is elevated (used to have really bad reflux at night, but that has gone away with cpap treatment) and use a sobokawa pillow. I usually fell pretty rested after a full nights sleep. I have been using the cpap for 11 months now, and I would not give it up for anything!

I found a mattress pad that is basically like an entire bed-size wedge! I love it!! It is made of memory foam and is about 5-6 inches high at the head, while only about 2 inches high at the foot. Makes for real comfortable sleep!
I was in a cpap fog until I came here to learn!

inacpapfog,

Where'd you find that? I haven't seen one. But sure sounds comfortable

Hey Cybergoon,

They do make adjustable air beds! I sell one in Texas wholesale. It is made by Englander and they have factgories nationwide. I know Boyd makes one too. They just get pricey so most stores don't floor them. They are great beds. Personally I like a visco memory foam bed and have had a lot of luck with them and sell a ton of them. Tempurpedic is the best know brand for this but there are many other national brands that are good.

As far as mattress pads, they can make a bad bed good and there are good ones out there. Just don't let the density get below 4 or they are junk.

I have a 4" 4lb. density memory foam topper on my Ca. King bed, because DH insisted on an extra firm mattress a few years back. Funny thing, he loves the topper more than I do. Also, a down comforter. Bewteen the 2, I sleep like a baby. Trouble is, I still wake up very sore since I am not used to sleeping all night long. This is a new thing for me. My next move is a Tempurpedic pillow (or a pap pillow) - haven't decided.
