If i tighten the straps too tight I get red bumps and sores so I am thinking about switching to a full face mask...

I really don't want to do this but I don't think I have a choice..

So with that in mind, those of you with a full face mask which is the best overall mask..

I noticed the banner ad on the home page and it looks like the Mirage Softgel Nasal mask might be for me....

Looking for some input from users to help me decide...

Before the posts start about taping etc, I really don't want to go that route. I have sensitive skin and night after night of tape will get me red and itchy areas.

I like my Mirage Liberty - nasal pillows plus mouth piece. No pressure on the bridge of my nose or forehead.

The SoftGel Nasal Mask only covers the nose. You would still need to tape. Have you tried using a soft cloth liner between your mask and face?

HUH???

the picture looks like a full face mask...

Dumb question, If it covers my mouth and has nasal pillows why would I still have to tape???

The SoftGel doesn't have nasal pillows, it's just a nasal mask. The picture does look as though it covers the mouth, but the bottom sits just above the upper lip. The Hybrid and the Liberty cover the mouth and have nasal pillows.

Quite a few of us here wear the RespCare Hybrid Universal, it's the original hybrid-style FFM. It comes with 3 sizes of oral cushion, 3 sizes of pillows that can be adjusted to 2 heights. There is another hybrid-style FFM that ResMed makes, called the Liberty mentioned in an eralier post. It seems if one mask fits well, the other won't seal. I have the small Liberty and can't make it stop leaking...my nightly mask is the Hybrid.

I'm happy with with a Fitlife total face mask. Have been for eight mos now. Its roomy enough to drool in all night. I love that part! You have nothing sticking up your nose so that's not a leak area there. On the down side it's big and most ppl hate it. http://fitlife.respironics.com/

Hi Lou Cypher,

You mentioned that you would prefer not switching to a full face mask. It also sounds like the primary problem that you are experiencing is irritation from overtightened straps, which usually occurs as a result of trying to compensate for a poorly fitting mask.

What's your leak rate?
Have you tried using different sizes of the nasal pillows?
Are you committed to staying with nasal pillows?
Have you tried other nasal masks?
Are you allergic to any of the mask materials?
Have you talked to your DME about the fit?
Have you tried using a non-petroleum cream where the mask comes in contact with your face?

Most importantly: Your therapy should NOT be painful. You DO have options. Check them out before you switch away from something that you like!

Have you tried the PapCap chinstrap? I use it every night and it keeps my trap shut. No taping! My AHI last night was 1.5 and the night before it was .5. I would say the PapCap works! Just a thought!
