Should BIPAP get easier at night (during same night)

Post by Southernwind » Mon Jan 03, 2011 4:03 am

Greetings Everyone,
Been on therapy for 5 days now and appear to be getting accustomed to it. There have been a couple of ocassions when after using the machine for most of the night, it seemed like it was very easy to breath in and out; almost like the pressure had dropped (17/10), although the machine still showed that pressure. In each instance, it felt like therapy was going very well at the time.

It's my belief that the machines have a level of intelligence that support them in syncing to our breaths, and is sensation a result of the machine syncing to my breathing or just the case of me getting more comfortable with it?

Other info...no significant leakages were experienced during the instances or during the nights. Equipment being used is listed in signature below.

Thanks!

I believe the machine syncs to our breathing rather quickly(once we are asleep). You are most likely just becoming more comfortable with the setup. Either way it is a good thing.

Many of us find that after a week or two we wake up thinking the mask isn't there. Your body adjusts and so does your sense of pressure.

Though the BiLevel machines are quite amazing, the only adaptation they make is to deliver your inhalation and exhalation pressures as prescribed. Of course, any auto adjustment if you have a Auto BiLevel unit, is also included in that.

Rather than saying the machine adjusts, I think it far more likely that you are observing an amazingly adjustable instrument at work ... your body. Our bodies and brains adjust amazingly quickly to changed circumstances. They adjust to changes in pressure. They adjust to changes in routine. What once seemed impossible to overcome becomes the norm.

So, it sounds as if you are adjusting well to your therapy. And that's great news, indeed!

Thanks everyone for helping me with this question. Your information and wisdom are inspiring to this newbie. Kudos to you and your willingness to take the time to help others involved in this therapy.

By the way...felt the best today than I have felt in a long time. Energy level was very nice after rising an hour early and working an 11 day!

Carpe Diem, God Bless, and THANK YOU

I only have an APAP but noticed the same thing. I just figure my body is getting more in rhythm with the machine not the other way around. Either way its good to hear you are getting some good rest.
