last night wasnt terrible. They used a Mirage Swift Nasal Pillows System with a resmed CPAP machine. I think i would do better without the electrodes on my head

I was there for 6 hours and only woke up once for about an hour. They had tv so thats cool.

My hardest thing was not breathing through my mouth. It is natural for me to do so even without nasal problems. When I did open my mouth to try to breathe it was a horrible feeling. Almost a choking sensation.

But overall this mask was great, it never fell off, wasnt too loud, and as a side sleeper, never got in the way no matter what position I tried!

Oh yeah, also my ears kept clogging or popping when i swallowed, kinda like going into penn station or down a big hill fast.

I think i will go with this mask, altho i wonder if id benefit more from something where I can breathe through my mouth?

KRomeo,
I was a mouth breather all my life and started on the Swift in August. With the Swift I find I no longer breathe thru my mouth. It just felt too weird and my brain learned to tell me to keep my mouth shut! (while sleeping, anyway. )
According to my read out that the doctor read, leaking was very minimal so I must be keeping it shut. I had ear popping also, went away in about a week. Seems there is an adjustment period with any mask, so you need to go with what works for you, what you eventually feel comfortable with and how you feel in the morning.

Good luck...

People have told me for a long time to keep my mouth shut! Well, after Bipap, I guess I do, I have too, or I get a wind tunnel out my mouth.

I have a plaque in my office that reads:

"NEVER MISS AN OPPORTUNITY TO KEEP YOUR MOUTH SHUT".

That has served me well MANY times. My main regret is that I didn't take my own advice more often. It probably makes adapting to "THE MASK" a tad easier. The biggest problem starting out was when I thought I was actually supposed to breathe through the mouth. That was a dreadful experience, and I'm not even tempted to do that again.

The swift is a good choice. I like the "minimalness" of it, pretty easy to get on and off, has a low profile. I'm not completely used to sleeping with a pillow under me, and one up each nostril. For that reason I have been alternately using the Ultra Mirage II, which is amazingly comfortable. I have found that it helps to be unconscious while wearing it.

Use the Search function located at the top of this page. For keyword enter: mouth-breathing and you will be given 42 matches for topics discussing this issue. Lots of reading, but lots of good info.

Personally, I use tape.

Have you tried a full-face mask?
